CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

No, you should be able to smoke it with no jail time. If you sell it to minors, maybe a fine or a week probation. If you feed it to dogs, maybe a mild spanking for you.
Yes, some counties in US they could shoot you in the fucking face with no compunction, and then load you onto a meat wagon, and hopefully you signed your donor card.
It's a class 1 federally restricted narcotic according to the US government. There are counties in Kentucky, that are dry, that means alcohol is not allowed to be transported in or consumed in those PRIVATE residences. If you went there and walked down the street smoking a joint and laughin away, some 87 year old plantation owner is going to call the county sheriff and I hope your not tanned to dark, cause you might not survive.
"If I refuse to pay the fine and they issue a warrant for my arrest, am I going to jail for not paying the fine; or for running the stop sign? For not paying the fine."
You are, of course, technically correct; the proximate cause is not paying the fine. However the ultimate cause is the legal status of running a stop sign.
"In most places. Smoking pot is little worse than a traffic cite."
It's certainly true that the U.S. has become more libertarian in regards to marijuana. However I personally still take issue with the government telling people what they can and cannot do when they are the only ones affected. After all, traffic violations affect other people, smoking pot only affects oneself.
"That’s why I am curious to know if a state where the laws are more severe."
I'm sure you're correct about the immediate punishment. Though I'd imagine the punishments for repeat offenders might include jail time.
Most pot arrests happen as a result of the person being arrested already for something else, or because the neighbors in an apartment called it in because they don’t want their kids breathing it (affecting other people).
Of course there are people who smoke it in the street and are observed by cops. But this isn’t really different than public intoxication.
My point isn’t that it should not come with prison time and that it does not come with prison time. Even if it were made legal, reasonable laws concerning the legal use thereof would still lead to a number of the arrests of the kind that already occur.
I thought I taught you to read better than that. Go check out Mint tea’s response above. Do you think her state is alone? Do you think they’re joshing?
That’s why I am curious to know if a state where the laws are more severe.
Hello A:
Make NO mistake.. If, in your state, pot is not legal, it's a JAILABLE offense.. If so, you apparently think that ALL the cops are gonna let everybody off that they catch.. DUDE.. The cops must be DIFFERENT in your neighborhood..
Now, I suppose it IS true that MOST cops will let a smoker go, but NOT all.. And, EVEN if the smoker isn't found guilty, he's gonna have an arrest RECORD that will FOLLOW him the rest of his life..
It’s arrestable. But you are only going to jail until you see a judge, and that’s only if you aren’t from this state. And that’s the same for traffic violations if your State doesn’t have an agreement with mine, or if you don’t want to sign the damn thing. It’s the same with most minor crimes. The penalty is what I’m concerned with. You aren’t going to prison for smoking pot. I don’t know of anywhere where that’s the case (unless you’re armed with a gun while you do it). Where does simply smoking pot come with prison time?
Duh, fuck yah you should be in jail. Drugs are bad, mmkay, you shouldn't do drugs, ....mmkay. Weed leads to other drugs, like cranks, and shooby doos, and injecting squid sperm into your eyeballs. It's a progressive agenda, you know, first they appoint a progressive king and pretty soon, there chemicals in the water, turning all the frogs gay, and then what? I believe in Jesus Christ, you have to give up your soul to jjjjjeeeeeessssuss, that's the only way to avoid the socialist progressive regime, that's the only way. Don't let them make the frogs wear point shoes, keep yourself tarted up, Dhahran jdgieujd hr ejejdne ejejdne be. Progressive!
"there chemicals in the water, turning all the frogs gay"
Funnily enough this claim of Alex Jones' is actually true, and moreover is understated. Atrazine (a common pesticide) does indeed turn male frogs gay and in fact even chemically castrates them and turns 10% of them into fully functional females (Source 1).
