It does not follow that if India cuts down its carbon emissions, then its economic growth will be compromised. Cutting down carbon emissions may require a build of new technology that will ensure that the carbon emissions are lowered, and the development and deployment of this technology could in fact spur a new economic activity, and in turn spur the economic growth. And in time to come India will have economic growth without carbon emissions, which could pave the way for a healthier nation.

I dont believe that more carbon emissions brings more economic growth.

So I hold that India should cut carbon emissions AND get economic growth.

True than more carbon emissions will increase economy! But it is not like your economy falling for its falling!

What i mean is if you feel than coal burning at the geo-thermal station is bad then you lose economy!

I'm having a real hard time following your argument, but the way to continued, long-term economic growth is NOT burning more coal, which will run out in the USA at least within 100-200 years or so.

I'll say this again...a country can embrace green technology AND improve its economy.

No way. White man never did. Why should we. :P

Firstly per capita India is waaay less than most western countries and shouldn't be pressured into reducing it's carbon emissions until it is anywhere near the countries trying to impose these rules.

Secondly countries should lead by example. Taking a neutral view - India would not want to compromise its economic growth, but if it sees other countries greatly cutting carbon emissions it may reconsider.

I'm not going to argue in favor of cutting "carbon emissions", but it IS possible to embrace green technology AND increase your country's economic growth. The green sector is just waiting for more & more companies to make a ton of money off of its technologies.

Well not when you have climate gate going on. The Scientist cooks the books to make the global climate look to the favor of possible global warming. Investigation starting in Great Britain and NASA will be next.

One fact alone about the hypocrisy of Global warming. Just one Volcanic eruption puts out more carbon emissions that 200 years of all of our man made carbon emissions alone. I'm all for making things cleaner and better but the Global Warming is getting debunked very quickly.

Well!!! the eyes must be turned towards the big economic giant of the world i.e. the US. One single country with just 5% of the worlds population is contributing generously to the carbon emission to a value as high as 30%. I see no reason why a country embodied with all kinds of resources can't step up and try to reduce its emissions. It was one of the a few countries which refused to ratify the Kyoto protocol and yet again something unfruitful for the environment can come up.

Talking of green technology and other stuff, it must not be forgotten that it all needs huge capital. Coal is one of the major fuel source and for a developing nation not to exploit it, is unreasonable. Some amount of emission can certainly be brought down but not to the extent the developed nations are expecting. It is the duty of the developed world and not just US to led by example and stop forcing others.
