Should Michael Vick be allowed to play in the NFL again?

Michael Vick was one of the preeminent players in the NFL before being convicted of bankrolling a dog-fighting ring.  He was released from prison this week and many people expect that an NFL team will seek to sign him as a free agent.  Do you think he should be re-instated by the NFL?

I do not condone what he did but he did his time. He has also been fined thousands for the up keep of his dogs. If the NFL wants him to play...he will play.

If you think about football...is there a more violent sport? They might as well be gladiators.

I think that Vick has served his time and should be allowed to play in the NFL again. While he did commit a heinous crime, he has been brought to justice by the courts and he should be reinstated into the NFL.

Yes, he served his time and apologized. He needs to make money because he is very broke.

Of course. although he has committed crime, he is still one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history because he can run like crazy while still maintaining a great passing arm. any team getting him is very lucky and fortunate. He is very talented, but isn't exactly the brightest guy out there.

There are worse crimes commited in the stands of NFL games every sunday than what Vick was guilty of.

He did his time let the man play ball

While I would agree there are worse crimes committed I cannot get away from the fact that the laws do not push the perpetrator of such crimes sufficiently. I have all but forgotten what his sentence was but I'd bet it wasn't long enough for the crimes against those dogs! So, is it enough for him to have served a light sentence and then be put back into the sport that gave him the money to do what he loves best? Torture Pit Bulls and pit them against one another. I think not. His playing days should be over as an addendum to a crime against humanity...even if they were lowly dogs. Michael Vick is a pig disguised as a perfect football player...but a perfect human does not live inside of him.

Look America is full of opportunities which includes giving people 2nd chances but those opportunities will only go so far. If he screws up again then he should not play in the NFL and I don't think the NFL is that dumb to take him back if that does happen again.

about 3 weeks ago I saw a show on ESPN and they were talking about Michael Vick, 2 were saying how this were a hanous crime and the other 2(i was very shocked to hear this) said that this souldn't be considerd a crime and they said people were overreacting to "just animals" geting killed or tortured. That shows it all on our society, people are divided on not that if vick should have got a tougher sentence (i think most of us do agree that the conmissioner gave him in ok punishmint), people are divided on on how vick treated animals some beleive that they are "just animals" others beleive the opposite. all these people that say vick did nothing wrong are the same kind of people who argue with there children, sometimes beat there children, have no skills coping with society, they are very miserable as a human being and i am so glad im not like that. i am not a big animal lover but i have enough furking sense that these animals have the capability to be a humans companion, best friend, and these animals help people with disabilties and for someone to kill animals that only wants to help humans and even getting when beaten wants to still be his master companion, and those dogs that who were tortured will never forget waht happened to them(for the ones that are alive) that aren't "just animals with no skills of remembering" every time they walk on the street, something will remind them of getting toretured they are reliving that expirence, its the same thing with a human getting raped. Remember i did say he got a fair sentece with in the nfl, and if ANYONE and i mean "ANYONE" disagrees with my argument ,except if you just disagree on the sentencing micheal vick got i could understand that part, but if you disagree with me on how animals should be treated then its like what i said earlier, you might seem nice to poeple but you are mserable in the inside, and stop acting tough you dont prove nothing the only thing you prove is that your MISERABLE!

To be honest I'd like to see another black QB win the superbowl, not only a black QB but a black option QB!

Sure what he did was wrong but other people all over the world torture animals, they all serve their time and go back to their lives. Football is his life, so let him go back in and chill, watch Nancy Grace for 10 minutes and you should realize that this isn't really that big of a deal.

Of course he should. Michael Vick is an awesome quarterback and dog fighting is not that serious of a crime. I think the Redskins should pick him up and oust Campbell.

Excuse me? Dog fighting is not that serious of a crime? He partook in an immensely cruel and physically and emotionally damaging activity that directly harms a fellow sentient being. What he did is unforgivable, and by allowing him to rejoin the NFL because he's an "awesome quarterback" is condoning an activity that purposely inflicts damage upon another.

I'm an animal lover, so let me say this:

I would not support the team he plays for. His status a an athlete doesn't matter if he loses revenue for the team he plays with. That is why he can't get hired.

What Michael Vick did there is no excuse for. He may have paid his debt to the State but he has a long way to go to pay his debt to humanity and his former fans.

lol not that big of a crime?

are you guys serious and did you even see the pictures of his dog after a fight?

animal cruelty IS a serious crime. it's guys like Michael Vick that make people afraid of pitbulls because ever since they're little they're trained to be aggressive and fight, and then when they end up attacking someone it's the dog who gets punished for how it's owner raised it. euthanasia and a ban on a breed is real fair isn't it? especially for a innocent dog who doesn't get to choose his owner or how he's treated.

Michael Vick should not be allowed to play in the NFL again. there's many poor and athletic people in America so just because he's broke and a good athlete is not a good enough excuse. he fucked up, and in my opinion he should still be in jail for awhile longer.

Celebrities continued to be held above the laws of this nation.

As a celebrity in the US you are the spotlight role model for adults as well as children.

You are allowed certain allowances with their personalities. This should not be so, all should be accountable to the law of the land. It is the American Publics fault for continuing to allow this to happen.

The fans of Vick on the field can completely ignore his actions due their desire to see him play and assist their fantasy football pools. This is true for Vick as well as OJ, Paris and Pereez,.

Yes, he has served his time and he has paid his financial dues.

However, he has also betrayed trust to his team, his family , the fans and the sport and lastly another loyal American icon. The dog.

IMHO the Dog cruelty issue took spot light. However, it was not the only crime he participated in. He has bankrolled the gambling on dogfights . He was an admitted “professional” dog fighter., he participated in interstate gambling and funding of dog fights. All of which were felonies. Not to mention the prostitution and illegal transport of drugs and alcohol. All of which took the back seat to the cruelty he inflicted on the “non performing” dogs.

As a convicted felon, you lose your right to vote, the right to bear arms, ability to get a US passport, Depending on the state, you lose even more rights.

but

In our egocentric society he most likely be able to play again as people wish to see him play. As clearly indicated by the Yes arguments.

People want to see him play. It is not about him being denied access to the sport. He committed a FELONY.

Anyone who is not a celebrity or Vick, would still be in prison. Additionally, should that reformed lay person be released, he/she will never see a decent job. A felony appears on your record for life. McDonalds or a Walmart greeter is the best you could hope for.

No salary job will hire a felon due to the back ground check.

He could have baby dog veins in his teeth, but as long as the brain dead American public want to see this man, he will be back on the field.

How quickly people say its only a dog that died, when they want to see him play.

Should those people first hand witness or participate in a dog fight with their beloved pet, I am sure that their perception would change.

How quickly sheep are willing to forgive a felony to see a man play a sport.

Absolutely not. He is a public figure, and a poor role model for young boys aspiring to be like NFL players. While I believe he has served his time, I don't think the commissioner should "reward" him by allowing him to make millions again...Sorry Mike.

Absolutely not. I will be very disappointed with any team that takes him on, and will withdraw support for them. So from an economic perspective, it's a bad idea.

I'm sick of celebrities feeling above the law.

I'm glad he served his time, but I think the ultimate punishment for him would be to deprive him of his former lifestyle.

What about all the other people that go back to their previous lifestyles?

What your saying is being antithetic towards the point you were trying to make.

That being celebrities should not be above the law, nor should they be punished differently. If someone is an amazing architect and he abuses dogs, goes to prison for his sentence and then gets out I gurantee you he will be back designing buildings.

I'm furious that Michael Vick be even considered to be given a chance to return to the NFL. He hasn't repented or made any effort to help with the ongoing problem of dog fighting across the nation. He probably still places his bets, after all he's broke and needs money. I can't stand him, he's a pig and he should be banned from the NFL completely, forever. I can't fathom the thought of watching him play and earn all that money knowing that he abused and murdered those beautiful dogs. I have two Pit bulls and I would personally love to let them snack on his nuts. It's obvious that I'm not a fan, but c'mon, is he really sorry? No! He's just an idiot that got caught and is trying to get back in the publics good graces. Was he a good player? Yes, but he got greedy and selfish and wanted more. Of all things to enjoy, watching innocent dogs rip each other to threads shows me that his version of entertainment is sick and demented.

I feel as though people don't see the real problem.... he's broke!!! He'll tell us anything we want to hear....hellooooooo wake up people, he'll shed a million tears if it gets him a million dollars!!!! Who's defending the dogs?? He never did!!! He's a liar, user, abuser, offender and I'll never support a team that supports him.
