I think it might act as a deterrent towards those people thinking about committing such a heinous act that could result in the death penalty.

My vote is yes.

Well I think people should think twice about actually filming and televising them, but I don't think it should be illegal or anything. If somebody wants to watch one, let him- just keep it off of any mainstream channel. Put it on HBO late at night or some pay-per-view channel.

A cultural obsession with violence is credited as one of the causes for the decline of the Roman empire. We're currently the culture most inundated with violence, between the number of wars we launch, and the amount of it in our media. I think televising executions would be a drop in the bucket in terms of amount of violence, but it would up the ante in terms of intensity. I definitely see parallels with the Colisseum.

In the book 1984 the youth was very violent and domineering. A big source of their entertainment was watching public executions.

I'm with Orwell on this one. so NO

Well, I honestly did not know that, so thank you for teaching me something new. :)

But I don't want public executions to be televised on networks where somebody could be flipping through the channels and randomly see a guy getting the chair or some poison. Rather, it'd be better to have it available on a secluded channel where parents have control over how much their children can watch of it (hopefully zero!) I just feel like too much censorship is way too communistic, as if we can't show anything on TV because the government doesn't allow it.

Although I don't agree, I must say that viewing on a pay-per-view channel would be an alternative to public blood-letting!

I am against executions altogether. The only reason I want them to be televised is so that people can see that they are not as smooth and painless as they think they. I want the public to witness the same horror as the convicts undergo, or at least a part of it. So that we can finally learn the truth about execution: that they are evil

It would be an awesome public spectacle. Lets face it, people love violence and love to see bad people die.

Conservatives will argue that it's bad for the children, and Liberals will argue that executions are bad in general, but guess what, i don't give a fuck.

If we decide to televise executions, it would be fuckin' awesome. Hell, we can start a real Gladiator program as well.

"Lets face it, people love violence and love to see bad people die."

Yeah, at the movies, knowing it's fake. Non on some twisted reality show.

Reality sucks, that's why we have movies and TV. Now people are trying to defeate the purpose.

3 down votes, yet, no explanation on how i'm WRONG exactly. just disagreements... but the fact that you don't agree with someone automatically makes them wrong?

how pathetic.

There is no good reason to have executions available for the public to watch. So, no.

No, no, fictional murders are entertainment. Real life murder is not entertainment; unless you're so twisted watching a human being actually die is actually amusing to you. It's usually only the psychopaths that are actually murdering people and/or ending up in asylums, who find that stuff amusing to the point of entertainment. BIG difference.

I see no reason for executions to be made available to the public for viewing. It's just a gruesome way to get your ya-ya's out on someone else's misery. I don't know that they'd let you in to begin with but if this kind of things makes you feel good, but a ticket and go to the location to watch it in person!

Not just no. HELL NO!

It should be a violation of privacy and FCC laws to show anyone's actual murder on television.

Absolutely not. That is insane violation of privacy, no matter who the person is. Any murder or execution being televised is absurd; television is first and foremost for entertainment purposes (with the exception of news channels; even educational channels--and some news channels--are entertainment-based), and to consider death entertainment, no matter how fascinating it may be, is barbaric.

I have to admit this is a interesting debate because it really mixed everybody up. People that I generally agree with are on the other side and vice versa.

On the other hand this is stupid and no! If fake violence isn't good enough(or bad enough, however you wanna look at it) for you then you have problems.

Other than entertainment which is obviously not a good reason, give me one good reason why it should be on TV.
