Offhandedly I would say yes she should have but it's going to depend on what "personal issues" come to light, if any, or if this is simply an exercise to buy more time to mount a presidential bid. She will have much time to test the waters since we are only 6 months into Obama's term. Perhaps she'll try to garner support from the Republican party in order to ascertain her chances at such a bid. I think it would have looked better for her had she waited until the end of her term. Personally, yes, barring some serious personal issues (which she chose not to go into detail about) I think she should have waited and finished her term. The people of Alaska trusted her enough to put her in office, so following through was the ethical course. Of course, this all begs the question of whether or not this will affect her pursuit of a 2012 Presidential bid. I think - again, personal opinion - that it was unethical to just leave her elected position and only cite nebulous personal issues, but then again I'm not part of the Republican base. If the Matt Lauer & Katy Couric interviews didnt show her to be a terrible national candidate in the minds of most, I don't know what will. I think this will inevitably be overlooked or explained with a conservative confirmation bias (e.g., "she did it because she's a Maverick! She found other ways to help the country!). Ms. Palin will start to make appearances at gun shows and get the base 'fired up' again, and before you know it, for better or worse, there's your 2012 candidate. Side: yes
It proves her to be unreliable. What if McCain had won, and she were our Vice President now? Had she left that job, we would be without a Vice President. McCain, I think, would nominate someone, anyone... it's a very odd circumstance and breeds insecurity in the nation. She's a flake. More than her being a bad politician, she makes me ashamed to be a woman. Side: yes

Spiro Agnew didn't just leave office as Ms. Palin is doing. His departure might have had something to do with his nolo contendre plea to tax evasion and money laundering and discovery that he was taking kickbacks from construction companies as the governor of Maryland. It was in fact a big deal, and he was forced to quit because a lot of people "cared". The difference here is that there's no apparent impetus for Ms. Palin's departure. She just quit the position that she was entrusted with by the people of Alaska...which is also a big deal, at least to me, for someone who we will probably see as a presidential candidate in 2012... Sarah palin has been consistant in her positions regarding using "the people's money" and there is no reason she should change. It isn't in her nature. The attacks on her have been very costly for the state and for her personally. It's to her credit that she stayed in elected office this long. I wish her and her family the best. Side: No
She probably had a good reason to do so, we have no idea why she did so. I live in Alaska and we know she won't give up and in order for this to have happened it must have been important. In case you did not know she was facing 500,000 dollars in legal fees to fight false ethics complaints. She also was being attacked by the media and even her family was targeted. Side: No
