Back in the day, i told the vice president of the company that they should use chat for customer support. He got angry with me and threw me out of his office. Years later.... :)

As long as it doesn't distract from working, social networking sites can actually connect with more people around the world and possibly improve the business and expand.

It'd be difficult to stop people from taking advantage of the system, but, yes, networking and chatting online are extremely fantastic tools that make it much easier to connect with clients and spread the word about your product/service/whatever.

It really help us to interact with colleagues easily without reaching them in-person. The level of usage is depends on the user control. Use as needed. There is no harm in permitting social Networking at work, unless you dont have control on you.

It depends on the type of work. If Social Networking Sites can be useful for the type of work then it should be allowed but if not, then it should not be allowed.

No, I see no reason that Internet networking on personal sites should be allowed at work. It sets up too much of a personal relationship between two people which could back-fire down the road.

Even if it helps your work, it is a quick way to get distracted and I'm sure somebody in sales can easily wait until he or she gets home to social network.

In official hours, if one is using these social networking sites for professional use, then there is no harm in using them. But if one uses it just for fun, then such activities should not definitely be allowed.
