If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.

The draft is no longer being used, but in the event that it would be used I say yes because I believe in equal rights for women. This includes the right to defend the country.
To the contrary, conscription is only needed by the act of Congress and the Signature of the President of the United States. A draft is only temporary discontinued.
The Selective Service System remains in place as a contingency plan; men between the ages of 18 and 25 are required to register so that a draft can be readily resumed if needed.
In 1980, Congress re-instated the requirement that young men register with the Selective Service System. At that time it was required that all males, born on or after January 1, 1960 register with the Selective Service System.
Yep, I was unaware of that a few months ago but in I had to sign up in order to be accepted into college. However, I do have an issue with the fact that it does not apply to women. There is no reason why a female of good physical health should not be treated the same as a man who is in good physical health.
"There is no reason why a female of good physical health should not be treated the same as a man who is in good physical health."
Actually, there is. While it is true that with the proper training, women can be just as strong and agile as men, where the difference comes in is the time it takes. On average, women do have to train longer and harder to get the same results as men. This creates a problem during a draft because soldiers are required to complete their basic military training within a certain time period to accommodate more recruits. If women were drafted, it would slow down the process considerably. I am not trying to be sexist, I am only saying that there are physical differences that would be cumbersome when trying to train soldiers as quickly as possible.
The Supreme Court upheld the act, stating that Congress's "decision to exempt women from a draft was not the accidental byproduct of a traditional way of thinking about women.
HOWEVER, I don't a damn what they think.
If the military is voluntary, then women should be drafted, yet if a draft is mandated, then it is not voluntary; however, women should still be drafted as well as fight in the front lines.
Hell yes. Imagine the fear the enemy would have, women with guns running toward you. A whole unit with PMS would be unstoppable. Finally a war the USA could win.
If you call Vietnam, Korean, Iraq and Afghanistan all as wins then I concur. I don't call running from the enemy a win, ran all the way home in two of these. The latter will join the ranks of them in do time.
We stopped the N.K. forces in Korea and were asked to leave 'Nam,we didn't loose. In Iraq we have accomplished our goals, albeit with higher than required casualties.
Yes. But maybe it would be proper for them to concentrate on the medical divisions in the military. I think they will be more productive there since they have a physical disadvantage among men in the battle field.
I had to argue that women should not be allowed in combat for a class and this was my main article. It is really informative actually, y'all should all look at it. I don't believe everything said in it, but it is still really good :)
If you are talking about the U.S. we do not have a draft. No one joins against their will. The U.S. has the best trained all volunteer military in the world and a draft would only hurt the military at this point. should women join absolutely.

When you turn 18, you are required to sign up for the draft, so that in a time of war, the nation will have a steady stream of fresh soldiers. We do not currently have an ACTIVE draft, but we have a draft in place none the less
No, most girls between 18 and 25 could not do it. Don't try and say otherwise because you know its true. They would be court marshalled for insubordination or get a shitty job counting bullets or something.
Don't kid yourself. While im sure a small minority of girls would be capable of "working just as well as boys", the vast vast majority of girls neither have the capacity or interest in maintaining weaponry, bench pressing, and sparring with bayonets. Its not how nature works, accept it, embrace it, etc.
That's simply because of the way kids are raised in sexist ways. If girls and boys were treated equally from birth and on they would want to go into occupations at about a equal need for them. It's proven too. There are still a few society's out there where women take the main lead in military, manual labor, and other hard work.
I can see where you're coming from here, but this is one particular 'If' that, while interesting as a thought exercise, is more or less useless in practice.
By your own statement you acknowledge that raising a generation of girls who are suitable candidates for the selective service would require fundamentally altering our culture and customs and then waiting years for girls raised in the 'new culture' to come of age. Culture and customs don't change overnight, but rather gradually over time- and attempts to forcibly manipulate culture in a particular direction have met with nothing but failure, except in particularly isolated societies like North Korea. In addition, Child-rearing is a field where people tend to be PARTICULARLY inflexible. If it's a culture problem, it's not one that we're likely to fix.
Is this debate specified to culture? My disputes were towards sexist allegations. If the culture is acceptant of woman or not, that's not my debate. I was saying that woman are capable. My sister is in the air force, and is much more capable than myself. Sexual equalization is spreading world wide. Even going into it culturally, we could see a worldwide difference in a few hundred years.
I don't think so. Not because they need to be protected, but someone needs to run the country if all the men are forced to fight. We've done it before you know.
What people don't seem to recognize is that in order to win a war, you must have steady supply of young soldiers. The majority of women need to continue to produce offspring to maintain the countries future.
Also, women who volunteer have made the self determined decision to join the military, which is rare compared to the great majority of women, who have no desire or interest. Imagine how many men hate the thought of being drafted into the militarily, imagine if 18 year old American girls were drafted! The whole concept is preposterous. Equality can only go so far before we have to face the fact that women and men are different and serve different roles.
