Should an excessive drinker or smoker be liable for organ transplants? (read description)

Should an excessive drinker or smoker be liable for organ transplants? Should an alcoholic be able to get a liver transplant when he contracts liver disease from drinking so much? Should a smoker be liable for a lung transplant when he contracted lung cancer? I think not, because they did it to themselves, and they may still do it even after the transplant. Many people who actually need those transplants could have been put off for an alcoholic or a smoker. Tell me your opinion below.

It's my, albeit limited, understanding that they can't. They have to prove that they have gone without drink or smoke before any transplants, and if they fail that they are ineligible for one. Perhaps I'm wrong?

I do believe however, that such a practice is necessary. The need for organs is fairly high and if a person isn't going to take proper care of a second chance then it should go to someone who needs it and will.

You had your chance, im sure many doctors let you know that drinking or smoke is going to cause health problems. You lost it if you kept it going and someone else deserves a chance.
