Should artificial intelligence be granted person-hood?

Now I'm not talking about your basic AI such as Siri or programs similar to Siri, but let's assume that we build a machine that can think on it's own and manage itself. It can cognize in a manner similar to humans. Should this machine be granted rights or person-hood?

There is a difference between artificial intelligence and artificial consciousness, it seems you are describing the latter. If we were to ever create artificial consciousness, a digital sentience if you will, then we should probably grant it personhood as a sentientist myself.

Side: Yes

I mean it really would depend. i dont know what this artificial intelligence/consciousness would look like, act like, how it would communicate, what capacities it has, what activities it can perform, ect. But granted all of those things, i would say yes. If it looks like a person and acts like a person why not call it a person?

Side: Yes

If an artificial intelligence/consciousness exists that is capable of understanding its own oppression and marginalization, then yes. Otherwise it is quite probable that relegation to inferiority would prompt resistance, rebellion, and conflict. Just look at our own human history.
