The best way to show solidarity would be to echo the actions of athletes in the past and wear an armband so that they stick out in the media attention. Otherwise we end up in a situation where the Chinese athletes win everything because none of the rest of the world is there. The Italians wore black armbands when they won against Iraq to recognize a journalist who had died there in 04. I remember that and the story of the two medalists who gave the black panther salute more than what happened those years in the olympics.

That is ridiculous. Wearing an armband would not show anything other than that you didn't have the balls to stay at home and stand up for human rights. If all the democratic countries joined together to ban the Olympics it could cause serious financial and political damage to the Chinese government, which is the only way they're going to listen.

I would not go as far to say that they should "ban" the olympics in Beijing as it would be unfair to all the rigorous training they have gone through for this occasion, however I most certainly do believe they should protest and make their voices heard in all kinds of ways. China should be embarrassed and humiliated by the end of the olympics as far as I care. Side: No
Is it right to ask the athletes to give up their lifelong dream of going to the Olympics while we sit in chairs made in China, typing on a keyboard made in China and reading on a monitor also made in China? I think it's a bit hypocritical of people to call for a ban on a one-time event which is the athletes' best days of their life while they're not, themselves, willing to boycott Chinese products they could probably do without.
