Should bullying in high schools, grade schools, and middle schools be illegal?

All bullying should be illegal. Bullying is abuse and no one has the right to abuse.

Hey look who's back! Its been awhile since you have been on here. Glad your back on here.

Side: Yes

Yup. Next people will say parental abuse should be legal or domestic abuse. "It helps you grow, hurdur!" Just like with saying harassment (oh, only in SCHOOL BUILDINGS, everywhere else, harassment is harassment and should be illegal, right?) should be legal. Gah. Yes, parent abuse and partner abuse is a bigger betrayal, but I can see it happening.

Either it becomes illegal or schools force these bullies into public service.

Well how else do you penalize kids without forcing them to lose school time and thereby become dumber?

Side: Yes

Should it be? Yes!! But can it be, no. As a parent of 4, all my children have been bullied. Especially my child with mild Autism. It's aggravating to deal with, but I adjusted to each scenario. No two situations are the same and in a court of law, it would be hard to prove. But why let it get that far? I have had the privilege of living in various provinces and have seen some excellent anti bulling programs in public schools. That being said, out of four children I have only one attending public school, as the others were being bullied and I had to put to in private, and one is homeschooled. Bullying is very bad in our current city. :(.

It's NOT illegal currently? In what kind of a fucked up third world country is bullying children not illegal?

Side: Yes
1 point

Yes, I think it should be illegal, but the problem is that most bullies are younger than 18, therefore they re not subject to the law, and they couldnt be imprisoned. Besides, people in schools are not the only persons who are experiencing being bullied. There are still bullies in work, and they are forcing you to do this and to do that, even if that is not really your work at all. Next, people also dont give others the right wage and fee in work, their also considered as bullies, right?

Side: Yes

It should be but it would be a momumental task to inforce.

Maybe if this was deemed illegal, it would force kids to see the severity of the situation. I am in high school, and I see lots of kids who don't think that bullying is that serious. No matter what programs try to get a point across, kids just DON'T GET IT... If it were illegal, more kids would probably look at it in a different light. If drinking and driving is illegal because it can harm and endanger people's lives, why is bullying different?

Side: Yes

Yes bullying should be illegalized because it's a cruel form of abuse & hatred

Side: Yes

Most defiantly it can be so degrading and put people in deep depression. Although it may be hard to keep track of as it happens everywhere.

Side: Yes

Bullying is wrong! Bullying should be illegal. Teachers have to get serious about it.

It's really hard to choose but exactly how are you going to do that? Charge the kids or their parents? Yes, bullying does have long term effects on a human being, but it also makes him or her stronger. It really depends. Some people are bullied so much they lose their minds. I really don't know.

I will tell you whats stupid though. When I hear someone whine and say, "He is cyber bullying me!" Grow a pair. If you don't like it then block him! Don't be an idiot and use your brain!

lol, "makes them stronger." What bullshit. It may make some people stronger, but so what? That wasn't the harasser's intention. Harassment is harassment and it should be illegal. That's not to say that people should be thrown in prison automatically, but it should be stoppable under law.

As for cyber bullying, that usually refers to people you know IRL going on the internet for a larger audience. It's no different from ground bullying because it's just a continuation of it, except, OH NO, more people can join in. In these cases, blocking someone does nothing because you face their harassment in school/street too.

If you mean random strangers, that's usually trolling, and getting arrested for trolling sounds hilarious.

Side: Yes

Personally, I don't think it should be deemed Illegal. To me that is too serious for kids. Yes bullying is wrong, and I am 100% against it. And schools need to have better policies on the matter to drastically cut down on bullying. However this is not a matter that by law should be illegal. But I do believe this needs to be resolved by other coarse of actions. More rules should be made about it. I just feel that making it illegal is too big of a step for a matter that could be solved by other, less drastic ways.

No. No, no, and...no.

Just think, for one second, about what the real world is like and you'll have your answer why.

There are bullies out there. In the "grown-up", world, there are assholes who will push you around and insult you. One of them could be your boss. Kids need to learn how to deal with these morons now, not late.

Side: No

Thats exactly what I was trying to say in my post. In the real world it is cold and harsh. Kids need to understand that there is a different world outside of school. A world that is a lot more harder then dealing with school bullies.

Side: No

I support what you say. The world is harsh. I am a sophmore and i have just started to look into polotics and other issues in the world and i thought, shit what am i getting into.

Bullying shouldn't be illgal but inforced aginst. And also sometiems people need to just grow a pair.

Why shouldn't it? It's already illegal to harass people on the streets, so what's so different about harassing people inside school buildings? You can call the police on people deciding to harass you on the street, and can we please not pretend that we have a reason to assume that most bullying victims become prepared for "in case the boss is an asshole in a vital job" situations? No, many times it just damages the person.

It should be illegal. It's H A R A S S M E N T. The same "deal with it now" arguments can be used for many other illegal things.

"We should make assault legal, because people may have to face violence when they're older too!"

"We should make rape legal in certain places where its rampant to prepare poor people who cant get out for future rape experiences!"

Um, no.

The benefits don't outweigh the cons.

Sorry, but to imply that harassers are doing people a service just because they're younger in school buildings just isn't logical.

And things can be done in the workplace too. Sorry, but I'd rather have harassment be illegal everywhere, not just on the street. I'm not missing some vital experience by supporting that view, either. Even if my boss does do something to me, oh well. The only thing bullying did for me is ADD to the negative experiences I've had.

Sorry, people just are too un- uniform to say that they'll grow from being harassed in general.

You fail to take into account that fact that we don't encounter rapists and assaulters (or whatever you want to call them), on a regular basis, but we sure as hell meet assholes on a regular basis.

Also, you fail to take into account the scale of the crimes. Calling the police because they are physically assaulting you, or sexually assaulting you is expected. Calling the police because someone is calling you names is going to get you in trouble, not the perpretrator.

And are you seriously suggesting that we arrest children for making fun of an unpopular kid? Because that happens in real life, and you can't report that to the police. Because if you do, that isn't going to make anything better. In fact, it's going to make you a laughing stock. You have to learn how to deal with those things while you're young.

This is a Bullcrap debate. What's gonna happen if bullying happens? Police come? Haha, they have better things to be doing rather than going to schools and arresting kids just because someone called someone else a name.

Sometimes bullying leads to death or suicide. We can''t just laugh at it.
