Of course, it's an important job, average money would attract average people, you pay peanuts...

Agreed. Also, when people in positions of power don't make very much, that increases the likelihood of them taking bribes.

Average money would be enough for someone who wanted to do the job because it ment more to them then money. Someone doing that particular job for the money doesn't have the right motivations and it is those kinds of people that can be bought. Ill do it for 30k, vote for sierra =)

Politics is not the sweet ride people think it is, it is quite stressful and requires a decent education, something the average Joe doesn't have. Highly educated people don't want to work stressful jobs- in the public eye mind- for average money.

Someone doing that particular job for the money doesn't have the right motivations and it is those kinds of people that can be bought.

This is a broad generalization, mostly those who can be bought will be bought regardless of their salary band.

They shouldn't and neither should CEOs.

Why not CEOs. They don't work for you. If you let the government tell some people (CEOs) what to make whats to stop them from telling you what you can make?

If laborer's pay checks were being paid by the government and not corporations, I assure you, they will be much bigger in comparison to what laborers are being paid now.

Trust me.

check this site out and find out what your state rep makes.

Recently the feds and Oregon both passed an increase in taxes for people earning more than 250,000 a year. conveniently none of the state elected officials make that much unless, you include "benefits" and "expenses" I think thats sneaky. If state and fed officials were paid what the average citizen of their state was paid perhaps there would be a bigger incentive to make that average bigger (ie actually attempt to create jobs).

How can someone represent you, who isn't one of you? They can't. This is the reason congress and senate favor those who are rich, because they are rich.

Side: No

I agree with your statement however I think a big part of this problem can be fixed if It was easier (ie. cheaper ) to run for office in the first place. I'm not solely talking about fund raising for the campaign it costs money just to get your name on the ballet several hundred if not thousands thousands in Oregon you have to have a lawyer which is very expensive and you have to file tons of paper work that have fees attached. I have thought about running but couldn't afford it. I think that should change, that might make the pickens a little better.

Our representatives are supposed to represent all of us rich or poor unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case most the time

You should join your local occupy movement, what you just talked about is one of the central focuses of it.

Perhaps if an elected official is supposed to represent an average American, he should make the same amount of money that they do. If he is supposed to represent a rich American, he should make the same amount of money as them.

This is admittedly very silly, but perhaps they would better represent and relate the sectors that they represent.
