Should free speech give the right to offend?

If 'offending' means using derogatory language and profanity then no it isn't right....That being said free speech means the freedom to voice your own opinions even though there's a possibility they may be shall we say unpalatable to other people or an affront to their principles, hence 'offensive'. I think that's becoming a very real problem now in societies everywhere where the opinions of the minority are trumpeted to seem like the majority and if you don't suscribe to those views you're hushed up - and this applies to a number of social issues. In other words, free speech is free until you disagree.

Yes, it gives the right to do it, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.

It should give the right to offend, but the government IS allowed to limit speech, like banning libel. So it should be allowed, if you can face the consequences you might confront.

If you don't want to be mentioned, don't create fake accounts and mention yourself. It is simple.

Although they call it free speech, the definition is very vague.

I think what the term means is you have a right to your opinions. It doesn't give you the right to discriminate or utter extremely loud derogatory comments in public. I think that's part of a charge called disorderly conduct- where a person on the street might find your words offensive.

Side: No way Jose, respect others

If the offense is an inclination toward hatred and violence toward others, such free speech should be curtailed.
