CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

It's murder yes, but all things die and it's not dishonourable like factory farming as the animal has a chance to escape, as long as you don't use a gun.
Why not a gun? In the interest of being humane it seems a gun is actually one of the best ways to hunt. Other weapons, like a hunting bow, are less lethal so once you injure your prey with the first shot you have to chase the wounded and terrified animal, possibly shooting it several more times, before it finally bleeds out and dies. Traps wound and immobilize the animal for hours, sometimes days, putting the creature in enough pain that it oftentimes chooses to gnaw off the trapped limb to escape. If you have a decent scoped hunting rifle you can instantly end a deers life with a well placed shot, and if you don't it still did a hell of a lot more damage than an arrow or knife or something so the animal will still die more quickly.
And why shouldn't humanity as a species be allowed to use tools we created to survive and provide? Saying we can't use guns to hunt is like saying apes shouldn't be allowed to use sticks to catch ants.
Like how tigers are armed with vicious teeth, or bugs are armed with poison, how lions have claws and how fish have fins and jaws, humanity is armed with a brain.
To run after an animal to eat it is foolish, and should not be considered.
Yes, I agree that factory farming is disgusting, but there are a lot of people.
Not everyone wants to go hunting. If everyone stopped doing factory farming, we would likely cause several species to go extinct in a month or less. 7 billion people, many in cities, is a LOT. Forests near larger cities would be trampled and cease to exist.
Not only that, but NOT using a gun to hunt is just stupid. There's no reason to deny humans guns unless you had your own agenda. It's PURELY opinion based. If you want to hunt without a gun, then go ahead, but humans have developed technology for many reasons, and this is one of them.
You can use weapons that make it possible, but not easy. And you don't need to eat meat, at the most once a week: bt the rate people consume meat at today is ridiculous. Where is the 'thrill of the chase' that hunters talk about in pressing a trigger, anyway? It's pathetic.
And what, traps aren't easy? You set em up and walk away and come back the next day - how much easier can it get?
Also the "easy" you're talking about amounts to a quick, more painless death for the animal in question. Making it "hard" for a hunter to kill an animal means more time that animal spends in pain and fear in the slowed down process of killing it.
You think having a gun means huntings all of a sudden a breeze and there's no "thrill of the case?" You think cause you have a gun you get to run around through the forest dropping deer left and right with hip-shots like it's fucking Grand Theft Auto? Hell no. You still have to track and stalk animals, creep up, and get your shot off. Just like you would using a spear or a bow except a gun does a better job of more quickly killing the animal once it has been hit. Have you ever been hunting, with a gun or otherwise?
And technically you don't "need" to eat shit; you can get by on water and supplements, if you really want to. I fail to see how this makes eating grilled chicken one night for dinner and broiled steak the next "ridiculous."
I was actually thinking of the bow and arrows, similar but takes more practise~ and not as expensive either. I've only ever used targets (sometimes swinging) on trees for bow practice, really. And shooting is much simpler than firing an arrow once you get used to the jerk.
And overconsumption of meat is ridiculous, as I said death is not something to be taken lightly. We do not need to eat meat, and it causes suffering to do so. The only argument for eating meat I can think of would make a whole host of other undesirable things fine, too.
It's unfair to consider animals as lesser than us. Painting with a red handled brush is the same as painting with a blue handled brush, if you have different words for it, it doesn't matter~ the result is the same.
You have still destroyed something beautiful, mystical and incredibly complex. That is not to be taken lightly.

Absolutely none of this matters, a requirement for being a person is that you are human, most animals are not humans.
It connotes strongly~ murder roots from mord, basically to kill, if the debate was titled should hunting be considered homicide, homo~ same, I'd agree.
what if its in self defence or the defence of another thats whats is currently defined as a justifyable homicide shuld that be murder and people go to prison for do ing the right thing.
Homicide is defined as the taking of a human life by another human. Murder is the UNLAWFUL taking of a human life by another human. Learn the law. I'm a criminal justice student so I know my shit
Well not technically murder, it's not like we're hunting humans but it should definelty be cruelty to animals if you're not eating it. People hunt for sport, but it's illegal to eat a dog in this country.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to eat a dog or hunt, but I feel like they might as well be the same thing. Same with fishing.
Killing is a necessary part of life (killing plants or animals for food, killing bacteria when washing hands, etc). If we consider murder to be evil killing as opposed to acceptable killing, then no, I don't think hunting counts as murder.
Ruthless killing of animals but not murder because I think murder is classed as human killing human. But hunting as a sport... Yeah that's just ruthless killing and waste of the animals life.
