I think that if you're under twenty-one, you should be able to date those sixteen and up; if you're between fourteen and sixteen, it should be no more than a four-year difference- the difference in high school student, say? And I guess if you're twelve or thirteen a two year difference is enough. If they're younger than half your age plus seven is usually a good reference.

I don't see what is wrong with dating someone, just as long as they do not have sex or do sexual activities. It is important though that there is a set age where you can date, but I think it should be like 14 or something.

Theoretically there's not much a twenty year old would have in common with a 16 year old. I don't say you should have them arrested but in many states, if they're having sex, it's tantamount to stautory rape. Not a good situation at all. Why, when you're breaking the chains of being a teenager yourself would anyone ever wish to go out with a 16 year old?

Maybe the 16 year old can date 2 - 10 year olds ;)

I am 17 and my girlfriend is 21. We started dating when I was 16, she was 20. I didn't want to date her for sex or give my virginity to her and she said that we wouldn't be able to have sex because she didn't want to take my virginity from me. Then we fell in love. We agreed to break up many times but could never do it. And eventually neither of us cared about what we originally said about my virginity, we just wanted to be with each other. We had sex. I'm glad the legal age of consent is 16 where I live because otherwise we could have never been together to begin with. Restriction on the dating age could prevent potential couples from being as happy as we are. "No they should be allowed."

If I have the chance to date a older woman that I like then I should be allowed to date her.

New update on my relationship with the now 21 year old. Turns out that psycho was really controlling and made my life suck after a while. She turned out to be a terrible person and stalked me after I dumped her. She even made up a lie about being pregnant. She was conceited. And according to her our relationship failed because I wasn't mature enough. It didn't matter that she cheated on me, broke up with me multiple times over the smallest things(to see how far she could push me), and frequently let me know about how much she didn't care about anything I did("high school stuff doesn't matter because I'm in college and you're stupid for thinking it does"). I've come to the conclusion that she was mentally unstable. I'll say that this is probably the case for the majority of 20 year olds seeking a serious relationship with a 16 year old.

they should be able to date because evey body should be able to date. at least with anbody they wont pluss they should date so they could be ready for the world and so they could no that they win some and they lose some and so they could no what true love is and so they could no that if that person is the one for you and who is not, so kids should be able to date

My most recent boyfriend turned 21 right before we broke up. Was our relationship in any way wrong or dirty or creepy? Not at all, particularly since I seem to be mature for my age and he is absolutely immature for his age.

It is illegal because a minor can't really consent to a sexual relationship with an older, more experienced person who is able to manipulate them, and who DOES know what s/he's doing. Basically, theoretically, a minor doesn't know all of the ins and outs of sex and sexual relationships and isn't mentally mature enough to make decisions about that. I'm not saying that sex between minors should be illegal, just that an adult who is dating a minor is taking advantage of the minor's youth, at least in a lot of cases. There are exceptions; there probably are some 16 year olds who are just as or more mature than their 20 year old partner, but those exceptions are probably kind of rare.

Overall, I think that it should remain illegal for a minor to date an adult.

Well, if you're a 16 year old male, I truly believe you should be allowed to date a 20 year old woman.

I think there should be two separate rules, because I may be wrong, but I'm guessing you are not in too much danger of being abused by a woman at this point regardless of her age.

Under 18 you are not a legal adult. Of course their will be different rules for you than a 20 year old dating a 40 year old. Its called the age of consent.
