Should latinos still be considered a minority?

With the increasing number of Latinos in the population do you still feel they should be considered a minoriy and receive all the benefits that title entails?

Should we start evaluating and making determinations on a state by state basis or across the entire US?

Well, by definition they are a minority. Of course, it depends on where exactly you're talking about.

They take up 16.7% of the population according to the most recent census.

That's a minority when you see how many non-hispanic whites there are (about 64%)

If we look at a definition of minority:

mi·nor·i·ty

Noun: The smaller number or part, esp. a number that is less than half the whole number.

OR

A part of a population that is different in race, religion, or culture from most of the population.

Then whites should also be considered so in many of our states where they are not majority? Or do we only simply look at the overall USA demographics?

Because the USA is a nation.

State by state they can decide who's a minority, but Nationally Whites take up a majority while latinos and blacks are minority groups.

Side: Yes!

We should stop classifying people as minorities and majorities.

When I was younger I used to raise rabbits. The only hard part about raising rabbits is disciplining them. They're not dogs, so they don't remember their lessons very well and they're very fragile (so you can't beat them). But fear worked particularly well. If you shake a stick at them when they're bad, they usually get the message and won't do that thing again.

One time these 2 rabbits just did not get the message so after repeated attempts with the shaking of the stick, I got fed up and locked them in a shed for a few days. That turned out to be disastrous because after a few days, I had more rabbits than I could shake a stick at.

What does this have to do with Latinos? Not much. Except that if you don't stay vigilant, you'll have more Latinos than you can shake a stick at. That..., and..., if you shake a stick at a Latino, you may end up with a stick up your @$$ ;)
