Should martial arts be included in school?

We have sports. So, we should also have martial arts. We should also have chess and intellectual videogames. These things should all be just as much funded as sports so that everyone has something they can do whether it be physical, mental, or in between.

martial arts is the best way of self defense!

schools are meant for the all round development so dis one way meant for a complete development

I think that martial arts should be included in school. I cannot see how there can be an argument against this. There is wrestling, football, rugby... why not martial arts?

Side: yes

Why don't you consider wrestling a martial art ?

It's a better self defense art than, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo, Hapkido, Aikido, and most others.

What makes wrestling any better than any of these?

Yes it should be included because people could defend themselves by using martial arts.

Yes it should be included because people could defend themselves by using martial arts.

Martial arts don't really work to defend oneself in real world situations.

Have you ever done a martial art? I agree something like fencing won't be very useful unless you constantly carry a rapier around with you, but eastern martial arts are very useful for self defense. We learn methods of escaping from different holds and how to block punches/kicks/weapons followed by disabling your opponent. Each martial art differs, so Aikido is about diverting your oponents strength and doing the least amount of damage possible to them, JiuJitsu focuses on locks and throws and TaeKwonDo focuses on explosive punches and kicks.

You can't just use a gun, especially in countries where personal weapons are prohibited.

If the school has enough money to pay for an instructor who knows their stuff, I say yes!

Why not? It teaches discipline. Also, some of them are actually useful. Jiu-Jitsu, Muay-thai, the works.

A bully will always try and hurt another person no matter if they know martial arts or not. At least by giving kids some methods of defending themselves will they have a better chance of not ending up in the hospital wing.

it is a cultural treasure that should be introduced to the next generation.

it is as beneficial as sport

it builds character the way only very few sports can ( pain teaches you a lot of things )

That would be totally awesome!!! I could physically fight people at 7:30am (not like I would do that if there wasn't a teacher around) and I would love it!!! It would really help wake me up after getting up at 6am in the morning.

I say yes to Martial arts being in taught in the school cause some kids especially those with ADHD need some way to express themselves. I know this because I had to teach myself martial arts and I have ADHD and now I am even more calmer and I am actually trying to pass my classes and it taught me morals.

Yes definitely. Martial arts should be included in the school curriculum as it teaches a sense of respect along with sportsmanship ahead of techniques. Students can learn self defense lesson and avoid bullying. Visit the following website for more better reasons: https://plus.google.com/101133092959677271365/

I do not wholly agree with the notion of having any form of sport in school; school is for learning the bases of knowledge (ABCs, 123s, BEDMAS, factorials, chemistry, and so on and so on), not to play sports.

Side: No

All sports or hobbies should be separate from school. Sports are not school.

Side: No

No, it shouldn`t! why martial arts should be a School subject if it is not suitable for everyone and does not develop our mind? More over in our school program little time for basic knowledge, and students should work hard to get good result. i think martial arts should be independent and taught for people who are interested.

The term "Martial Art" is an oxymoron. Art is creative activity, war is destructive. Now self defense arts...They should be taught at school.

Thanks for at least making an argument to go along with the down vote. My point is that if it has nothing to do with war, then it's a misuse of the term "martial."
