Should prayer be allowed in public school?

I'm not asking if it should be mandated of not.  Do you think it'd be okay for a student to pray during school?  Or to say "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance?  Or to form an after school club dedicated to his or her religious beliefs?  Is any of this permissable?

Absolutely...and allow them to pray as they ought...in their own religious belief system!

I say "let them" for the part of developing clubs because those aren't mandatory for every body. It's no difference than church or a cultural club. However, I've always been annoyed with the "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance to the point I haven't said the Pledge throughout my entire high school. Granted, we weren't forced to say it every morning like we were in middle school anyway. But I think it's wrong since not everyone agrees with it and the only reasonable thing is to say, "then don't say it." But by having it in the Pledge is saying this country is about God and that's that, and the rest of us may as well leave the country. Now, it's going to sound pretty obvious that I also don't think Prayer in the class should be allowed either... unless of course, it's a private religious school.

You would be interested to know "Under God" was added to the pledge in the 50's to attempt to differentiate us from those "godless" Soviets. Basically, it was propaganda.

How can we say everything else is OK except prayer? Why does it seem like there's a siege against God?

definitely yes...prayer is a compulsion, its a way we can gain confidence .........if we pray god it means that we have faith in supreme power.. moreover in my country prayer is important part of the day..... no matter its a public or private school

As long as it is optional, of course. It doesn't have to be Christian prayer, anyone of any religion should be able to pray if they so choose.

I really don't care if somebody else prays so long as they don't ask me to and the teacher doesn't lead. Or I'll just refuse the same way I refuse to say the pledge. If for some I do say the pledge it's so I can replace god with Ala or krishna to annoy my southern classmates. Like I said though I really don't care so long as they leave me alone and the teacher doesn't lead. Since that blurs the line between church and state which is ignored often enough as it is. Besides I enjoy being one of the few people that says no and stands off to the side. I like the attention I get for being different.

if a student wishes to pray, let him. nothing wrong with that. as long as he's doing his work as well.

but it should not be mandated in anyway.

every one should be allowed to as long as they dont force others, however, they arent. the christian kids are allowed to publicly pray around the flag pole, and have after school clubs, but the other kids arent.

"under god" should not be in the pledge since the students are forced to say the pledge.

I think that each person have the same rights. Just each school can give to prayers some special place for pray. Even one classroom is enough. I think that is not problem to find one free classroom.

Side: Let them pray.

There are plenty of students who are praying to pass a test.
