Surely the trick is to educate young people efficiently so that they can defend themselves against the world rather than relying on laws to wash over a problem? The fact is that though there are rules, people break them. It happens all the time, everywhere, through all humanity and its varied environments. Just writing it off saying 'well it's illegal so they shouldn't do it' isn't helping anyone to deal with the potential repercussions of what is, essentially, a private thing between two people that we are naturally predisposed to do.

Young people need to be encouraged to take pride in themselves and take care of themselves, whether that's learning to make informed decisions about who they sleep with to knowing about protection and where they can go and who they can talk to if things do go wrong.
