Should students be allowed to choose what subjects they learn?

Add New Argument

Not at first, but the more their education progresses the more they should be able to choose what direction it goes. For example preschool and kindergarten should be more or less the same but in elementary school the students should learn a primary curriculum along with extra subjects of their choice. By the time you get to high school the curriculum should be about half student-specific and half universal subjects.

If you let six year olds choose there own subjects you'll end up with power rangers class and pony class. If you let teenagers choose there own subjects you'll end up with weed smoking class and how to get laid class.

I believe once maybe in middle or high school - they should learn the basics like math, ELA, science, social studies, etc. Then the students should have some mandatory classes like P.E and maybe some others... But then I believe that the students are ready to choose the classes they want to take.. And in what subjects.
