Should the Constitution be interpreted as WRITTEN, or as you WISH it was written?

Hello:

Case in point:  When proclaiming WHO the Due Process Clause applies to, the 5th Amendment says "PERSONS"..  I suggest right wingers WISH it said CITIZENS.  Otherwise, why would they build a prison in Gitmo where they thought the Constitution didn't apply?

All laws need to be interpreted as written. This means the words in the laws need to be defined by the definitions that were current at the time of the writing and passing/ratifying of the law.

Unfortunately, many people say they want to interpret the US Constitution as written, but they want to change definitions, or use modern definitions. This is how they come to interpret the Constitution as they wish it had been written.

This coming from the guy who didn't give a flying crap about the second amendment because of his feelings and was quickly willing to negotiate away one of his inalienable rights to a government ridden with corruption. Pick the parts of the Constitution you like. The liberal way.
