More and more people turn away from the EU because they think what those politicians in Brussels or Strasbourg do doesn't concern them. With a president elected by the people this might change as voters could identify themselves with the EU again. Moreover, turnout at European elections might rise! Side: Yes

The European Union is not a government but a cabinet government; therefore, there is no representation except already elected officials from individual nations; it is an economic and political union of 27 sovereign states, which are located primarily in Europe where the union was established by a treaty. Any treaty that nation-state sign surrender some sovereignty to other nation-states. Therefore, it is really irrelevant if the European Union should have a federal president. The real question should be the European Union have independent representation rather than cabinet government. Side: No
