Should the UK monarchy be abolished?

The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, has ruled for longer than any other monarch in British history and has become a much loved and respected figure across the globe. However, some argue that the monarchy should be abolished, perhaps on her death. Whilst the Royal Family provides the UK with revenue from tourism and is a long-standing remnant of British culture, others claim that the monarchy is outdated and a drain on the taxpayer.

They might as well abolish it, seeing they are so quick and ready to hand over their land to Muslims anyway.

As a part of the power structure of the nation, yes. They should be stripped of all power and reduced to a ceremonial role. One might argue that that is already the case, but every act of parliament, for example, must be signed off on by The Queen. Now, the monarch always does sign these acts, however if they refused the act technically wouldn't be law.

I don't really care, either way, but it seems to me despite being a long tradition it really just symbolizes how a select very few are born into privileges.

How is it all that different from a family which owned the most famous slave plantation in a state continuing to own that plantation forever and hold the title of "Slave Master" even though technically legally they don't actually have any slaves anymore?

That would destroy the dreams of the Left in America that praise the EU. Leftist in America want a monarchy or more like a dicktator then their nirvana would be complete but only for a short while.

The left tend not to support the monarchy, at least in the UK, because they see the Royal Family as unfairly privileged and a drain on taxpayer money. By contrast, the right tend to support the monarchy out of tradition. Compare the positions of Corbyn and the Conservative party.

I completely agree. However, I'm on the left and don't think "abolishing" them is the best thing to do. Just take away the remnants of power they have and let their legacy remain as a tourist attraction.

The looming question is why is there still a monarchy in the UK

Side: Yes

you abolish it and it only reamains in history books while you admiring and applauding China for conserving their traditions.

Lost sheeps. No history. Chaff blown by wind. Coming from no where, going, where.

If it weren't for monarchy, the european continent's economic statement would be up to this stage today

Side: No

I don't think it should be abolished because the monarchy is a direct link to history. I completely agree that the monarchy should no longer hold any power in society (and its land should become public property) but outright abolishing the royal family would negatively impact certain beneficial things like tourist revenue.
