From Mayo - "Anorexia nervosa isn't really about food. It's an unhealthy way to try to cope with emotional problems. When you have anorexia nervosa, you often equate thinness with self-worth." The issue with this plan is that it pretends that anorexia is some sort of issue that involves food. It is not that simple. The fear transcends most simplistic ideas about eating. It is a deeply ingrained psychological concern. Force-feeding does not solve for this deeper problem. Most issues are beyond the scope of simple food. Many issues involve the individuals idea of self-image, which cannot be changed through force-feeding. The price of ignoring deeper causation is continuance. Side: NO WAY

Life is more important than dignity, many medical treatments are unpleasant or painful but they are necessary to preserve life. Psychological problems can only be treated if the person is alive. Anorexics are typically treated under mental health legislation. They do not make a free choice because they are not rationally able to weigh ( no pun intended ) up decisions and consequences. It is a fear of gaining weight by too much eating. Unless they are shown that eating a reasonable amount will not cause them to become obese, they may starve to death. Also, the psychological problem is secondary - the main objective is to keep the subject from starving to herself death. Side: Yes its the perfect treatment!
Pineapple is correct. Force feeding would not solve the problem... and you're retarded ;) But more than that, I'm against forcing anything. Treatment should always be up to the patient even if they are misguided except in the case of juveniles who's parents insist on non-treatment, for the obvious reason that the parents are making the decision for someone else and the child is not able to make that type of decision on their own. I believe the treatment when so bad that the individual is in the hospital, consists of feeding tubes until they have their wits about them. When they have their wits about them, the proper action is to try to get them to eat. If they choose not to then they will either again be admitted to a hospital near starvation, or die. But one cannot follow someone with anorexia around periodically shoving food down their throat. Nor should they. Try to get them help for their mental issue. If you fail you did your best at least. Even if you tried to force feed someone, that does not fix the problem, they'll not eat as soon as you are out of the room. Side: NO WAY
