Should the phrase "under God" be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance?

There is a lot of dispute over whether or not the phrase is allowed.

Is there anything dirtier than money? Do people who believe in God really want God plastered on the dirtiest thing around?

Side: Take it out.

Although I would rather have it in I must abide by the first amendment. It should be taken off to preserve and uphold that amendment.

There is this thing called "separation of church and state". When you say it, you are pledging to be part of a nation controlled by God, which means that you can't be any religion that doesn't worship God if you have allegiance to the States.

No that is not what that means. I honestly want it in. Why take it out. This country was founded under God. There is no reason to change it. Now it is oppressing for other religions to change us. If it has been under God since the 40s why change it now?

This country was founded under God.

This country was founded upon a pledge of "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands- one nation indivisible-with liberty and justice for all.".

This nation also was not founded "under God" in any non-theological sense (and even in a theological sense, every nation would be founded under God).

There are plenty of reasons to change it, from returning to historical traditions, to eliminating an alienating and borderline unconstitutional practice, etc.

There is no reason to change it. Now it is oppressing for other religions to change us.

What are you talking about?

If it has been under God since the 40s why change it now?

That is known as the appeal to history logical fallacy. Just because something has been, is not itself an argument as to why it should be.

Additionally, it was added in 54 as an incredibly transparent, political move to further distance ourselves from secular communism.

it was put there by corporatists bent on creating a theocracy back in the 50's...

Politics and religion should never eat at the same table..............!

It should be taken out and replaced with "under Christ" since many Americans believe that the United States is a Christian nation.

that's an exceedingly BAD idea.

it doesn't matter if 99% of Americans think that christ is their savior... it would still violate the 1st amendment.

It should be taken out and replaced with "under Christ" since many Americans believe that the United States is a Christian nation.

Then many Americans are misinformed, and should read the first amendment.
