Should the use of cell phones be banned in schools?

Considering both the bad and good effects relating to the use of cell phones in schools by students especially in junior high schools (primary level schools) or high schools (secondary level schools), do you think that banning cell phone use in school is a bad or good idea?

It's a good idea. Schools have gone thousands of years and survived without kids having cell phones, so any positives are outweighed by the distraction they cause students.

If I were a teacher I'd minus 5 points from their overall score everytime I saw one. Leave it in your locker.

Love that idea!

Cell phones are a distraction to yourself and others and unnecessary at school. And we all know that the majority of kids who use cell phones at school aren't managing their calendars, they're texting when they should be paying attention to what they are doing.

good said, i absolutely agree. cell phone phones are distracting at some point, espcially when you do not want to think during the boring class and do not want to listen to the teacher at all. However, i think that cell phones should be allowed to use during the break and not class hours for instance it may refer to the lunch time

It's a good idea.

Well, if it is said, it must be so... wait... "It's a bad idea". Well, now we are in trouble.

Schools have gone thousands of years and survived without kids having cell phones, so any positives are outweighed by the distraction they cause students.

"Society has gone thousands of years and survived without people having cell phones, so any positives are outweighed by the distraction they cause people". We are not satisfied with this mysteriously conjured inference.

If I were a teacher I'd minus 5 points from their overall score everytime I saw one.

That would at least substantiate the theory "Mobile phones in class lead to a quantifiable degradation in test results". Too subtle?

Leave it in your locker.

The classroom isn't a democracy. They should "serve their highness" to some extent at least.

Yes, because we don't want Fags to communicate to each other, do we?

They should be banned during class time, unless a teacher says otherwise. It's usually a bunch of BS when students claim to be using a calculator or a calender. Majority of the time they are texting or something.

whats the problem with texting or something?

I always doodle, twirl my pen, text on my phone etc during class; if I don't, I zone out.

Cellphones during class hours can lead to extreme distraction from the work being done in class. This in turn can affect a student's performance and teachers, in most instances, are held accountable for the performance of their students. School is for education not cell phone entertainment. Our past generation did well in school without cellphones so why cant we do the same as well. Students should also be in school for learning not chatting and many students can use cellphones to cheat for quizzes, exams or anything else. Twirling your pen is different from texting because your attention is on your text not the class ( i tell you this from personal experience of which i am ashamed of because i made professor wasted her precious time and i wasnt paying attention but texting).

Because somebody who is so intelligent and driven as to secure a job regurgitating the discoveries of better men is surely qualified to make such decisions.

We confess we have not seen a phone during mathematics in some time. But then, we do move all the undesirables down to "pass" grade, so perhaps that's why.

Majority of the time they are texting or something.

Good lord, no. Because if their interest in the subject was such as rendered them susceptible to the temptation of texting, they are surely wasting their marvellous potential.

they should just in case we have a problem or you forget your items at your house and you need to call you mom or your dad. Or if you get hurt so you can call and tell what happened So they can come and pick you up and help you to were you need to go. Or if you get called down to the office and they need you than you can call them instead of the people in the office so thank you for reading this point of interest

Cell phones should not brought to school. Some children will text in the classroom causing a distraction.

1: its not distracting for the vast majority of students to handle their phones during school in general, especially when they are out of class. Many are quite skilled at their phone usage and regularly multitask with it while outside of school. There is no reason why they can not well inside of school.

2. If a phone is distracting to the student using the phone, does a student not have the right to fail?

3. Cell phones are a part of life and especially work, it is also common for college students to use them in class as a calendar/planner, and to organize study sessions and such through them. primary schools are overly authoritarian, and would do a better job of preparing students if they let loose a little bit and organized their school more like a college and allowed, no encouraged their students to use their phones in the same way many of their parents do at work.

Most if not all schools that I know of have rules against phone usage during class hours. However students may still use cell phones to arrange rides home if plans change, and to be used in emergency situations.

I have two opinions on this.

One being that cell phones should be allowed AT school, just not in class. For example, what harm is using it during lunch going to do? Or on the bus? None.

The second opinion is that I'd rather those students who don't care about their work be texting and failing by themselves then not being able to text and talk to others in class or cause more distractions to everyone else.

No i think cell phones overall should not be banned at school, just during the class hours, in others times students should be allowed to use cell phones freely. we have to think in some emergency cases when something may happen to a child and he will not be able to contact any one, but if he would have his cell phone beside he always willl have a chance to call 911. therefore, we have to allow students and chidlren use their cell phone in the school except for the school hours.
