Should schools offer Honors/AP courses?

Eng 10, Per 4: Some say all students should be taught in one class and teachers should differentiate options within the classroom.  This allows all students to learn from each other rather than separating more motivated students.  Others say students eligible for advanced placement or honors courses have needs that can only be met in a separate classroom.  What is your opinion?

Yes, different needs.

Sure, why not. I see nothing wrong with offering advanced curriculum to the higher achieving student. To those who are sure they are going to attend university. In England we have had the same sort of thing for years. We also have secondary schools that offer specialized academic paths. Almost similar to what you Yanks call college majors. Mine was in Electrical Engineering, and now I work on satellites for your government.

Your AP classes prevent the smarter lads from getting bored. And I do not see any negative effect on the lesser students who simply don't have to take the courses should they not wish to. The AP is sort of a academic equivalency of, say, this trade school courses the less academically inclined kids often take.

Notice I didn't say the dumber kids! LOL...I know you Yanks like your pc!
