The vast majority of people who play violent videogames are capable of distinguishing morality in a fictional world from morality in the real world. They understand there is a fundamental difference between running over pedestrians in GTA4 and running over pedestrians in real life.

About the only people who can get confused between fantasy and reality are young children, but their parents should be monitoring their activities. There's also a handful of people who can get provoked into real-life violence from looking at fictional violence, but I'd say that indicates they have underlying psychological problems and need help.

It does society a disservice to remove violent games from everyone when they provoke violence only in a small minority of vulnerable individuals.

The classification of something violent is too vague. You can classify something such as a Mario because he kills turtles and uses them as a weapon. By saying video games encourage violence is simply saying the kids cannot discern truth from reality. If this was true, we would have more outbreaks of voilence.

I wonder if people who advocate banning video games realize that adults play them too. A lot of people (such as myself) who grew up with pacman and Donkey kong, and playing video games as adults. This is perhaps the biggest misconception out there, that video games are for kids.

Banning something would be incredibly harsh. If you assume to have a particular issue with a certain violent game, the issue must be sought. Not the entire game. There is a lot of violence, though it can be treated. But, putting off is bad. Not the best Idea.

I don't want violent videogames to be banned because i enjoy them a lot.

Video games are not for people who don't know the difference between reality and violent fantasy.

However, for those who DO know the difference, where is the harm? There is not harm.

No way! I play violent video games every now and then. They're the best ones lol. They haven't affected me in any way. I still think violence is bad. People that play too much video games become addicted and impatient. Maybe that is why some people seem to become violent. Maybe they were just violent from the start. Video games are a great way to pass time and they sometimes help relieve stress too lol. If you don't like them, don't play them. Banning violent games would just cause more violence. Too many people play them.
