Should we continue offshore drilling after the recent oil spill in the Gulf?

6,000,000 gallons and counting.

I think our president said it best:

"...what led to this disaster was a breakdown of responsibility on the part of BP and perhaps others...And we will continue to hold the relevant companies accountable...

But...we also need to hold Washington accountable...the question is what lessons we can learn from this disaster to make sure it never happens again.

...I want to know what worked and what didn’t work in our response to the disaster, and where oversight of the oil and gas industry broke down...

One of the reasons I ran for President was to put America on the path to energy independence...we must pursue clean energy...And we must also pursue domestic sources of oil and gas...But we can only pursue offshore oil drilling if we have assurances that a disaster like the BP oil spill will not happen again."

I can agree with that. ------------------------------------------

We should continue off-shore drilling. 3/4 of our oil is imported, we are currently trying to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. If we do pass this bill it will increase our imported oil, and reliance upon foreign means of getting the oil we need for our energy resources.

I am siding with the "yes" team on this one. Even though I consider myself a bit of an eco-friendly, I understand the need for us to consume natural resources. We use oil for everything from gasoline to structural foam. Does this mean we need to abuse these resources to get what we want? Absolutely not. Do we need to stop drilling? I would say no. What we do need however is a lot more oversight, and a far better plan for disaster recovery. If we can extract the resources in a safe manner, I don't see any reason why we should not continue to drill. NOTE: We should keep drilling while at the same time trying to find ways to replace our dependence.

Hell, we should be doing more drilling. Fuckin' gas prices are ridiculous. Not as bad as Europe (which cost twice as much), but still pretty shitty.

Environmental issues? Mother Earth has been through hell and back without humans, I think she can handle some natural resources mixing with her other natural resources. She's a bitch, anyway.

And my straw reaches acroooooooss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... I... drink... your... milkshake!

Should we continue offshore drilling after the recent oil spill in the Gulf? Interesting question and being a Anxiety Medication admin I will vote and say yes. Rushing to ban offshore drilling after the Gulf spill only pushes oil.
