Should we decrease the US military budget?

If yes: how much? If no: why?

Let me be generous. Let's say our funding should be as much as whomever the next three big spenders on the list are combined. That's really really good. It means no one else could ever come close on their own to thumping us.

And... we already have that. In fact we spend MORE than that. So we definitely don't need a Trump military extravaganza at the expense of virtually everything else on the table.

Yes, eventually. We have been free national security for many of our allies around the world. We don't get thanks, we get discontent.

The US should put our allies on notice that it is time for them to start shouldering more of the burden for their own security. Then, we should slowly retract our forces as they build their own. We will still have to maintain a strong global presence, but with our allies being more involved, we can decrease our military budget while maintaining, and perhaps increasing our strength.

17 guys of various nationalities blow up two American towers.

America starts a war with a single country that none of the bombers were from.

Europe asks America to think about what it's doing.

America says no. Starts another war with another country based on faulty evidence. Also decides to drone strike in nations it isn't supposed to be in. Europe get dragged into proceedings.

Millions of people die, mostly of starvation, thirst and collateral damage.

Some of the families of those who died get angry and want to fight back against the Americans and Europeans. They start fighting back against the Americans and Europeans.

Americans withdraw their troops, elect a nationalist moron, and refuse to acknowledge any fault or deal with any fallout. "We are justified and everybody ese is wrong".

World disagrees.

America declares itself fed up of the unselfish world.

Rest of the world sighs and wishes America wasn't such an oversized child.

A rant full of inaccuracies and a pro ISIS bit in the middle. Nice. Do you think that the US should decrease military spending or no?

Side: Yes

We already spend nearly 600 billion dollars on our military and Trump wants to increase that amount by 52 billion. I think we should cut it in half, closing military bases and reducing the size of the army and navy. We are in enough debt as it is.

Have you considered the ramifications that would have on our allies? Does your position leave room for a slow process?

Yes, that would be wise to have funds go down slowly, perhaps 20 to 30 billion a year.

See no reason to decrease the military budget ! Do you want to protect your country Jacoby ?

I'm surprised. I thought you of all people would be in favor of decreasing the budget. Could you explain your logic of keeping it at the level it is?

The Military needs to be very weak in this country that makes you and everyone else vulnerable to the enemy !

Nope, Trumpy is right.

We need to stay strong.

Lots of terrorist rag heads need killing.

And we might even have to off a few gooks if Kim Jon Un doesn't behave, as Trump admonished him to do.

What?

We already tax the hell out of the rich.

Do you know that the top 10% wealthy people in the USA already pay well over HALF of all the taxes the IRS gets every year? It is not unusual for somebody in the top income bracket to pay nearly 40% of their annual income in taxes. Wheeras, somebody like you probably pays less than half that.

Both Russia and China upped the ante in both nuclear and conventional armaments quite some time ago while ex President ( inertia) Obama followed his cunning plan of make a few well rehearsed speeches and do nothing.

President Trump is now in a catch-up situation and of course the progressive fire-side generals are all bellowing, foul, we should remain at a military disadvantage.

On top of this we have crackpot regimes to deal with such as North Korea to deal with.
