Should we start a war on pirates?
Maybe you're sick and tired of the war on drugs and the war on terror and just want us to leave the damn pirates alone.
I mean, they have a right to make a living, right? Who are we to judge their way of life? The pirates where there before us.
Maybe we have oppressed them long enough and now we are reapping our just rewards. Maybe we insulted them or hurt their feelings by shooting their fellow pirates. Maybe we should pay them some kind of retribution. Give them a piece of the stimulous package.
Maybe you want to vote for a pirate president who will visit them and show some solidarity with them, do the fist bump thing or something.
Or maybe you just want to blow up all of their ships. Perhaps send a squadron of ninjas to kick their pirate ass.

We already are in a "war" with them. Every major country in NATO has navy ships patrolling the waters around Somalia. My sister is over there right now. She's kicking pirate ass. :) But it's hard to call it a war since the pirates aren't one unified cause. It's just a bunch of small groups of guerrilla naval warfare. And yes, I just made up a new type of war. Deal with it. 338 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
There really aren't any 'good' pirates that I can name off the top of my head. Only savage, primitive, and extremely skilled people hijacking boats and killing people. Sound like people you would invite to the superbowl party at Joe's house? Probably not. There really are no good qualities with pirates so why not kill all of them sons of bitches? Of course we cannot declare ' war ' on pirates. That is just ludicrous, since pirates are all on different ships in almost no relation to each other. We can set out on a mission to suppress all of the pirates on the planet though! =] 337 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" Well sometimes that's true, but other times it's not. What about a hate triangle? Or a game of rock, paper, scissors? The rock hates the paper because the paper kills it and it hates the scissors because it can kill them. That's kind of like the enemy of it's enemy. 337 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
It's really a lot of poor Somalian citizens going out to sea with bazookas and uzis, hijacking oil tankers, and not really being associated with any government. The Somalian government is very poorly run, and because of this they can't really deal with the pirates on their own. 337 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
Yes we can. We can send our military over there & destroy them. We are in a recession because of that bail out. The pirates made it worse by stealing our ships. How can you stick up for these assholes? Lets just destroy them. A couple apaches will be enough for the job. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
Maybe they aren't planning on attacking us here but they have attacked dozens of ships some of which were ours. We can't let them get away with that. They are the scum of this planet & should be wiped out. If they want to make money they can do alot of other stuff that is productive like farming. These aren't coward terrorists who we don't have enough proof they are a threat, these are evil pirates who have done these things in the open & attacked us 1st. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
Yes a couple Apache helicopters loaded with bullets, rockets, & missles are enough for the job. We aren't fighting a giant organized army we are fighting a bunch of punks with guns driving speed boats. The only threat to the Apaches are their RPGs. Other than that they don't stand a chance. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
They are attacking ships because they are theives trying to steal a bunch of goods for their own selfish benefits. They don't have to attack ships to make money. There are alot of other more productive jobs they can do like farming. They chose to hijack ships instead. Let's just send a couple Apaches there & exterminate them. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
It is our problem too. & if it's not then someone else needs to send a couple Apaches there & exterminate them. Destroying them would save us money because they won't be stealing anymore ships. All I'm saying is someone needs to send a couple Apaches there & exterminate them. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates
For those that have been watching the news the pirates have been holding American lives hostage, taking their ships, and than taking it back to the place where they have all the other people and stolen guns, and transportation and starting today they said that they will start to kill the hostages in parts until the demands are met. 334 days ago | Tagged As: Kill the pirates

You cannot declare war on individuals! You cannot declare war on a tactic! We are in a recession, the pirates are doing what they can, we should be doing the same, but that doesn't mean we need to be fighting with pirates. List of U.S. Ships attacked by Somali Pirates: -MV Seabourn Spirit: Cruise Ship (Capture Failed) -USS Cape St. George (CG-71): Ticonderoga-class cruiser (Capture Failed) -USS Gonzalez (DDG-66): Arleigh Burke-class destroyer (Capture Failed) -MS Nautica: Cruise Ship (Capture Failed) -MV Maersk Alabama: Cargo Vessel (Crew Regained Control) That is literally 5% of the ships effected (that are reported, so it may be much less (%)), American. It's not our business, just let Europe take care of it. 337 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
That's not what they're saying here. The New Yorker did an article as well.... http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/04/ 337 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
And here is what the Huffington post had to say: "Yes: nuclear waste. As soon as the government was gone, mysterious European ships started appearing off the coast of Somalia, dumping vast barrels into the ocean. The coastal population began to sicken. At first they suffered strange rashes, nausea and malformed babies. Then, after the 2005 tsunami, hundreds of the dumped and leaking barrels washed up on shore. People began to suffer from radiation sickness, and more than 300 died. Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the UN envoy to Somalia, tells me: "Somebody is dumping nuclear material here. There is also lead, and heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury - you name it." Much of it can be traced back to European hospitals and factories, who seem to be passing it on to the Italian mafia to "dispose" of cheaply. When I asked Ould-Abdallah what European governments were doing about it, he said with a sigh: "Nothing. There has been no clean-up, no compensation, and no prevention." At the same time, other European ships have been looting Somalia's seas of their greatest resource: seafood. We have destroyed our own fish-stocks by over-exploitation - and now we have moved on to theirs. More than $300m worth of tuna, shrimp, lobster and other sea-life is being stolen every year by vast trawlers illegally sailing into Somalia's unprotected seas. The local fishermen have suddenly lost their livelihoods, and they are starving. Mohammed Hussein, a fisherman in the town of Marka 100km south of Mogadishu, told Reuters: "If nothing is done, there soon won't be much fish left in our coastal waters." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ 337 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
I looked a little deeper into the situation and some are saying that there has been an exploitation of their Fish industry and that countries having been dumping nuclear waste into their waters. Because the Somalian government is so poorly run this goes on constantly. There is always more to a story than what the American News media puts out there. If this is true then I say help the Somalian government gain control over these issues and the pirates will then disband. three links: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/johann-hari/you-are-being-lied-to-abo_b_155147.html http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/04/overfishing-pirates-phillips-somali.php http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/01/world/ 337 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
I wasn't speaking on the level of good. The truth is that people will act in ways contrary to their nature when put into a corner. I'm looking to the why. Why are these "pirates" attacking ships? What is their agenda? From what I compiled, with the links, there is more than meets the eye. Perhaps you should take off the shudders covering your eyes and open up to different possibilities. another article which seems to look at more than one view: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/ And here is a comment on the article by someone claiming to be Somalian. "Posted by isaaq101 on April 9, 2009 20:37 ET I am from Somalia and do not condone any such act of piracy, wishing good luck for those who are held against their will. Having said that , it is time for the world community to pay attention Somalia which has been without functioning government for almost 20 years now, also is time to know the truth why a sudden spark of PIRACY in Somalia territorial water. Reason are as follow in my opinion: 1 - Somalia waters became dumping grounds for industrial and nuclear waste for last 18 years. 2 -Illegal fishing by the hundred fishing fleets around the globe to a point were local fisherman nets were intentionally cut or chased away by these bigger ships. The world community never paid attention to the outcry of the local poor fishermens or local people who suffered unknown diseases by washed barrels ashore. I conclude please investigate the reason before you pass your judgment. Thanks Isaaq" 336 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
It's called practicality. It's not "sticking up" for them, it's letting someone else deal with the problem. Like I've said, 5 American owned and or operated vessels have been effected out of 100 or more. We have no business over there anyway, let another country take care of it themselves. IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM. Destroying them would cost us more money and time that we shouldn't be dedicating to something that isn't our problem. 336 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
Yeah, great idea. Let's send a 100 million dollar warship and million dollar war planes to combat a couple of morons in a $100 motorboat brandishing Soviet-era weapons. If your house had a terminate infestation, would you just nuke the neighbourhood? You can't fight a high-tech war against low-tech opponents. We'll win initially, but the economics are against us. 335 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
Have you read on any recent history? At all? I mean, seriously. Did you ever see the movie Black Hawk Down? Based on a true story. To summarize, we thought some punks in a third-world country could be handled by a couple of helicopters, because hey, all they had were some RPGs. Next thing you know, two helicopters are in flames and they're dragging our soldier's corpses through the streets. And guess where it took place? Somalia. 335 days ago | Tagged As: Leave the pirates alone
