We already are in a "war" with them. Every major country in NATO has navy ships patrolling the waters around Somalia. My sister is over there right now. She's kicking pirate ass. :) But it's hard to call it a war since the pirates aren't one unified cause. It's just a bunch of small groups of guerrilla naval warfare. And yes, I just made up a new type of war. Deal with it.

There really aren't any 'good' pirates that I can name off the top of my head. Only savage, primitive, and extremely skilled people hijacking boats and killing people. Sound like people you would invite to the superbowl party at Joe's house? Probably not. There really are no good qualities with pirates so why not kill all of them sons of bitches?

Of course we cannot declare ' war ' on pirates. That is just ludicrous, since pirates are all on different ships in almost no relation to each other. We can set out on a mission to suppress all of the pirates on the planet though! =]

Well sometimes that's true, but other times it's not. What about a hate triangle? Or a game of rock, paper, scissors? The rock hates the paper because the paper kills it and it hates the scissors because it can kill them. That's kind of like the enemy of it's enemy.

It's really a lot of poor Somalian citizens going out to sea with bazookas and uzis, hijacking oil tankers, and not really being associated with any government. The Somalian government is very poorly run, and because of this they can't really deal with the pirates on their own.

Maybe they aren't planning on attacking us here but they have attacked dozens of ships some of which were ours. We can't let them get away with that.

For those that have been watching the news the pirates have been holding American lives hostage, taking their ships, and than taking it back to the place where they have all the other people and stolen guns, and transportation and starting today they said that they will start to kill the hostages in parts until the demands are met.

You cannot declare war on individuals! You cannot declare war on a tactic! We are in a recession, the pirates are doing what they can, we should be doing the same, but that doesn't mean we need to be fighting with pirates.

That is literally 5% of the ships effected (that are reported, so it may be much less (%)), American. It's not our business, just let Europe take care of it.

Have you looked into further into the Somalia issue? Much of what I've heard is it has to deal with the fishing industry and other countries exploitation of the terribly run Somalian government. Just some food for thought

I looked a little deeper into the situation and some are saying that there has been an exploitation of their Fish industry and that countries having been dumping nuclear waste into their waters. Because the Somalian government is so poorly run this goes on constantly. There is always more to a story than what the American News media puts out there. If this is true then I say help the Somalian government gain control over these issues and the pirates will then disband.

I wasn't speaking on the level of good. The truth is that people will act in ways contrary to their nature when put into a corner. I'm looking to the why. Why are these "pirates" attacking ships? What is their agenda? From what I compiled, with the links, there is more than meets the eye. Perhaps you should take off the shudders covering your eyes and open up to different possibilities.

Having said that , it is time for the world community to pay attention Somalia which has been without functioning government for almost 20 years now, also is time to know the truth why a sudden spark of PIRACY in Somalia territorial water.

Reason are as follow in my opinion:

1 - Somalia waters became dumping grounds for industrial and nuclear waste for last 18 years.

It's called practicality. It's not "sticking up" for them, it's letting someone else deal with the problem. Like I've said, 5 American owned and or operated vessels have been effected out of 100 or more. We have no business over there anyway, let another country take care of it themselves. IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM.
