Should we stop helping poor, foreign countries?

Personally I think it is ridiculous we have so many charity organisations that go over and help people in poor foreign countries, but so little that help those in our own country. Shouldn't helping our own citizens be a higher priority than helping others? I would be much happier knowing my money (not that I donate anyway, but whatever) is going to someone on my home soil. Now this doesn't mean we should just ignore other countries, but we should fix ourselves before we fix someone else.

I think helping people is other countries is one of the only good things our country is capable of. People say that countries we help like Haiti wouldn't help us in return but I thought we were always taught that you don't give to receive. It shouldn't matter whether anyone ever helps us in return as we will be the ones responsible for saving hundreds/ thousands of lives! Humans are killing the environment and ruining the world as we know it, it is nice to see that there is some good in us! I do agree that people in our country need help but we aren't suffering from half of the things third world countries are with the diseases and raids. And although it is not out responsibility to help I think it is what makes us human!

I'm not sure who "we" refers to (I would guess the Australian government) but in general, I would agree. Taxpayers should expect the money they send off to be beneficial to them in some fashion. Furthermore, in many cases the foreign aid money ends up in the hands of dictators and does nothing to help the common person. I don't know too much about Australia, but my country (the U.S.) is under a $14,000,000,000,000 debt and it continues to provide foreign aid.

I probably should have worded the debate better, but by "we" I mean us as a country (wherever you are from).

Not everything in life needs to be beneficial to me, myself and I, we as the lucky ones don't have to help the poor but as the few who are wealthy in a world where 22,000 children die every day from poverty I don't want to be another person of this day an age who neglected the needy. The education budget is huge and continues to grow, foreign aid in Australia was cut, so I have a question for you- is bettering the education of children who already attend school more important than educating the three billion people world wide who can't read?

The most illegal people in America are the ASIANS, not the Mexicans. The reason people go after Mexicans is because the Mexican boarder is visible and most people blame immigration on the Mexicans. The fact is that ASIANS don't talk about this because they they want people to focus on them. ASIANS are everywhere and in areas where they live, they don't speak English.

No we should not stop helping the poor. There are millions of people without food and many Christians around the world go to those countries and feed the poor and its good helping the poor. Christians will not stop helping the poor no matter what the cost is they will still help the poor plus it's God's will to help the poor and teach them about the love we giving to them by helping them through Christ.

I believe we should help them to help themselves as it would be impossible to help them forever. They would be too dependant on other countries help. Although corruption do exist and money from the charities would possibly go to those who are corrupted, BUT, with necessary steps, corruption could be prevented.

Money from charities could be used to teach them how to earn a living, buy necessities such as cloth, food, raw materials (to build shelter) or education. Besides, it is morally right to do so. It strengthen the ties between both countries and improves the image of the country that helps another country alongside with increasing the morale of its citizens.

In my opinion, the only time we should stop helping foreign countries is when they are no longer poor.

No, i think countries that are more develop should help does that aren't.

The world was once a big place that was all connected, people are originated in Africa.

That means that just because we all are now apart from each other doesn't make us different or better then does of other countries. Conclusion is everyone should be treated equal and given rights, criminals have right too, but since they do bad deeds they should be punished. I don't think poor people should be denied food just because they are poor.

I think that poverty diminishes people. Not everyone has a meal to eat and if we stop helping them who will. to have not clothes and food people can begin to die faster than they are now.
