Should we test beauty products on animals?

First I want to say that testing medicin and experimenting with treatments for diseases and disabilities is not a part of this debate, what I want to debate about is testing beautyproducts and stuff like that on animals.

I'm very much against testing shampoos, makeup and whatever beautyproduct one might use.
First of all, it makes no sense.   Humans and .. let's say a monkey, are two different species and we react to stuff differently.
So if we test something on a monkey before testing it on humans, doesn't make it very much safer. Just because the monkey is okay doesn't mean we will.  So why not leave the monkey alone, since it's not the one interested in using the product?

We've tested so much on animals already, I think we can use the information we already have from the animal testing we've already made, and use that information to make safe products for people to use - why find new ways. Everyone knows they are all pretty much the same. Just because this moisturizer has avocado in it doesn't mean it needs to be tested again.

Depends on what your definition of 'animal' is... Rosie O'Donnell? It couldn't hurt. ;)

If it's a choice between me having to use a burning product or laughing at a lunatic scientist making a helpless rat writhe in the abyss of agony I know which one I would pick, but maybe that's my Satanism thinking for me.

Anti-animaltesting products don't mean they are dangerous. They have been tested on humans before going on the market. And they have only tested it on humans because they know 90% that it is safe. Almost all the ingredients used in such products are organic, natural like .. water and avocado.

Right so it's either a human or a rat right?

Well I'm a human and the rat's a rat so yeah.

If you're stupid enough (I'm not saying you are, this is just an easy way of explaining my view) to rub a tube of mascara in your eyes, or to drink a bottle of drain cleaner, then you deserve what you get. That's the kind of thing they test in consumer goods animal testing. "Hmm, what happens if I inject this carpet shampoo into this guinea pig's skin? I wonder if it will hurt" It should be noted, companies that have chosen to eliminate animal testing have done so in as little as 40 days and are able to use past results to determine the safety of their products, as well as a number of alternative methods. Most of the tests performed are extreme and useless. They are also more expensive than alternative methods so it's possible the price of products could go down without animal testing.

Well when your little kid, cousin with down's syndrome, father with tourette's or clumsy grandma struggle a bit with their mascara tube or other cosmetic lotion. And perhaps get it in their eye and are screaming as it burns out their socket empty then I think you will wish that it had been a rat's eye instead and that it were a safer chemical compound.

For beauty products? Get the hell out of here. You need to cover up your ugly so you'll try to burn the hair off a lab mouse's face indefinitely?

Work on your inner beauty and accept your outer flaws.

It'd be different if it were medical advancements that could help cure human diseases, in that case we'd have very little other choice, but this is just make up. No one needs make up.

There are plenty of humans who would offer themselves to be testers for a little bit of cash. We don't need to test on animals when we have plenty of willing humans.

Testing on animals is wrong. Why would you test on an animal that has no choice but to be possibly killed? If it's for makeup, is it even logical to test on something that won't be wearing it in the end? If you're going to test on animals, only do it when it's a necessity, otherwise, it's wrong. When animal testing is avoidable, avoid it please! If humans really NEED makeup that bad, why don't we test it on someone who'll get paid for it? Then, scientists would be making a new product to give them way more money and the person would also be making money.
