Women should be allowed to be priests. Jesus never specifically said that women should not be priests, although he did choose only men as his 12 apostles. The Catholic Church is struggling to recruit new priests, and many of the existing priests are getting much older and losing touch with their parishioners. Allowing women to be priests could inject some new energy in to the Catholic Church and help it to promote it's goal of growth and conversion of new members. Side: Yes
Seven reasons why women can and should receive Holy Orders: 1. One priesthood in Christ Through baptism women and men share equally in the new priesthood of Christ. This includes openness to Holy Orders. 2. Empowered to preside At the Last Supper Jesus empowered both women and men. Both can be ordained to preside at the Eucharist. 3. Cultural bias The Church’s practice of not ordaining women as priests was based on a three-fold prejudice against women. This affected the judgment of Church leaders. 4. Women have been deacons Until at least the ninth century the Church gave women the full sacramental ordination of deacons. This proves women can be ordained. 5. The ability for women to be ordained has been present in the Church’s latent Tradition. One example is the age-long devotion to Mary as priest. It shows that, according to the ‘sense of the faithful’, in Mary the ban against women has already been overcome. 6. The wider Church accepts women priests After serious study and prayer other Christian Churches now ordain women as priests. Though not everything other churches do can be accepted by the Catholic Church, this converging consensus by believing Christians confirms that ordaining women is according to the mind of Christ. 7. Women too are, in fact, called to be priests The fact that many responsible Catholic women discern in themselves a vocation to the priesthood is a sign of the Holy Spirit you cannot ignore. Conclusion: There are no valid arguments against women priests, and many truly Catholic arguments in favour. Side: Yes

Other than the fact that they are the root of all evil, they were the weakest of the sex being a puppet of the great surpent with the poisen apple in the first place. read the bible, women are a "helpmeat" and meant as a means to procreate, anyhting more allowable just screws everything up.... I understand that tradition is that Christ called men to be in his ministry and that the 12 apostles were men and that the perfect priest would have been Mary, but Jesus didn't choose her. But I think the number of clergymen is decreasing and sometimes we need to end silly traditions for reasons like this. If we continue to lose male priests, I don't see why individual parishes should have to suffer because the Vatican is such a stickler for the rules. Side: yes

there is evidence that in the early church women had high positions additionally, you cannot argue that Jesus chose only men as disciples because women were truly his disciples-when Jesus was resurrected it was the women who he first appeared to and the male disciple Judas was the one who denied even knowing Jesus... i am not a christian, yet i have heard and seen a documentry on whether a woman should be a priest or not and on the video it shows that in rome underground, they buried christians there. that was when being a christian was against the law and i saw that on the walls in that place there was a picture of a man with his hand on these womans arm and the woman was wearing priest robes, so that shows that back then women were valued as priests in rome, where the pope is. also in the bible you have a fellow called paul and in the bible it seems that he is very sexist, but in one bible quote (romans 16 v1) he says that he sent Sister Phoebe to Rome to preach and that was very important as in rome back then, the majority of people were not christians and a WOMAN was used to preach to those people and she must have done a pretty good job as the pope lives in rome. so all the women and guys who say women shouldn't be priests should punch themselves in the face for being soooo stupid. ha Side: Yes

God made man and woman and he created them to be equal, god is looking down on you and if he was here he would want everybody at peace and doing the thing they love, it does not matter if your black or white, male or female, you all deserve to be at peace with god and your inner peace. Side: Yes

I bet you that 90% of the people who say NO to this argument are male. I honestly feel like the majority of them are angry because women want the right to something that only men have (right now at least). I don't think it's really fair that women can't be priest. The priesthood is a job that I've considered very much. Not really considered, but really really wanted to do. I began to take it very seriously, and I felt very upset because it was the only occupation I had ever considered that I really couldn't do because I wasn't allowed to. I'm going to be honest, and I don't mean any disrespect to my Church, but I think it's pretty stupid that only men can be priest. I really want to dedicate my life to God as a priest, but I can't because I have a vagina. I don't see the point in restricting it. We, Christians, are all about loving one another and accepting one another, so why can't women be accepted into this higher role in the Church? Side: Yes

All catholics have a share in the priesthood of Christ by baptism; we are already "priests." Now women who believe the Church to be doctrinally infallible won't ask for ordination. It's a matter of valuing the call we already have. Those who believe the Church is simply a human institution can only seek ordination under false pretense of faith. They can join the man-made "free-catholic" churches and become their priests, however. Side: No

I strongly disagree, there were many women followers of Christ, the only reason Jesus picked his apostles to be men, is so that they would receive the respect that women of that time did not. Now that women and men are equal, there should be no reason to allow women to take their place in the clergy alongside men. Side: Yes
