In the country, your house likely will burn down, even though you're forced to pay the bill. In the city, protecting the bill paying neighbors house means putting out the free riders fire. Collectivizing payment makes sense for collectivized services/goods, but not for others. People often point to small socialism to say it works. It often works on very small scales. The smaller the scale the better. Side: Agree
Hello A: I appreciate that your knee didn't jerk.. Most right wingers go nuts at the very thought of the "S" word. However, as you pointed out, in some instances the mechanics of socialism are sound.. So, we're really only talking about SIZE.. I dunno if fire fighting was ever private, but if it was, somebody saw the benefit of collectivizing it.. Similarly, I don't believe medicine ought to be a profit center any more either. I say any more, because health care delivery is wayyy different than it was in my youth.. That was before CRONY capitalism REPLACED good old fashioned hard work. I AM a capitalist. Would socializing health care prevent me from pursuing my profit making ventures??? I don't see how it would. The economy would NOT collapse. Yes, insurance company executives will have to find other employment. Will that bother me? Nope. And, as I point out, we'll be able to buy 8, maybe 10, aircraft carriers with the amount of money we'll save.. Look.. The right wing says that NOBODY will die from their plan.. I suspect that means that under their plan, people will seek treatment at the ER.. But, from a financial perspective, that's the MOST EXPENSIVE health care there is.. IF we socialize it, we'll SAVE $billions and $billions and get a better outcome.. Yes, it's the dreaded SOCIALISM.. But, once you get past the WORD, as you clearly have, the numbers make sense. excon Side: Agree
Yep. It's a good thing that we're not socialist then. We're not. Not even close. We're capitalism dominated and both major parties function to preserve that. They're all about money. The US social programs you bash for being socialist are merely a drop in the bucket compared to what truly socialist countries do. And it's folly to say that's the direction the Democrats are trying to push it. Heck, the Democrats went out of their way to torpedo Sanders, didn't they? No, instead, the US social programs mainly exist to make sure the indentured servant masses survive to keep servicing their debts and making the rich and the big businesses even richer. It's not "welfare", it's first aid for the livestock. Now go on dreaming that your true enemy is Democrats and living the lie that anything not purely conservative must be radical liberal. It just blinds you and shows you haven't a clue. Side: Agree
The CRAZY thing is your a left wing Progressive that is a staunch capitalistic and a job creator. But DUMMY corporations are not people so the Left says now are you a corporation or a company that does not need people ? Remember you are a job creator so if you are what you claim then you need people for those jobs ! Come on STUPID and bring your insane response ! Side: Agree

You are of course 100% correct. Look what happened with eight years of a closeted socialist Obama. Our food stamp roles grew by approximatey 15 million. This all happened while Democrats claimed the economy was growing nicely at 2%. So yes, socialistic politics creates more misery, more poor people, less middle class people and less wealthy people to drive our economy. This is why our economy was anemic for eight years. Punishing the successful and rewarding the lazy ALWAYS KILLS ECONOMIES and thereby creates the equal sharing of misery. Side: Agree

I suppose that if you said socialism fails, you are comparing it capitalism. I mean socialism doesn't have the same objectives as capitalism. Socialism is society oriented and capitalism is money oriented. In a ideal socialist world, money loses its value if everyone is equal ( I just impulsively said this, so I am be incredibly wrong). I don't think economic development is their ultimate goal. Money also isn't what they believe will make people happy. Side: I demand rations
Bronto Lie Counter: #76 The Winston Churchill quote is a combination of two quotes, not one. Bronto doesn't bother checking facts, or quoting in context. Bronto Lie Counter: #77 Bronto confuses what is generally referred to as "Socialism" today, the likes of Canada, Europe, etc; all of which have various forms of political socialism; with the "Socialism" which Winston Churchill was referring to: which is the second S in USSR; communist non-democratic enforced socialism. In reality; The US, with it's unemployment insurance, medicare, medicaid, progressive taxation, government run social programs is inherently socialist in this respect; though less so than many other countries.
