Solar Energy for Our Homes - a Good Idea?

As more people upgrade their homes to solar, I am currently doing my research to find out if it's really worth it. From reading the pros and cons, I am really thinking it's a no-brainer. What do you guys think? Would love to hear some opinions on this.

I am very much for it. In fact the company Tesla has made a solar roof that has the durability of 25 year asphalt shingles, even looks like them. From what I've heard they are very affordable, only slightly higher than a regular roof, but the energy gain is fantastic.

Depending on the location that you live, any excess energy can be given back to the grid and some companies will pay you for it. I think that's going to be rare as time progresses but in one documentary about a earthen (or it could have been an earthship) home their payment for electricity/heat was $300 a YEAR, not a month.

The main benefit I find in choosing to go solar is the fact that you're more independent. After you have the system installed, you no longer have to care about energy prices that are always rising according to international rates and so on.

The main benefit may be that it would negate Trumps horrendous "bring back coal" policy! Anyone that thinks coal does ANYTHING worthwhile for the mining states should read John Grisham's "Gray Mountain". Sure, it's fiction, but like his other novels it's based on legal and the actual facts that go on around us.

The ONLY thing beneficial about coal is what it does for the coal coalition's bottom line!

Meanwhile all the coal workers can get an education to start working in the green energy area such as solar panel installation, upkeep, cleaning. Windmill installation, upkeep. Sales in green energy devices and so on.

Heck of a lot healthier for them too.

I think it makes a lot of sense, I just don't have the means right now to make that transition.

If I won the lottery then I could imagine myself putting Tesla cars in the driveway and solar panels all across the roof.
