Surprise-San Francisco Restaurant Workers! Minimum Wage Hike is Killing Restaurants
If you’re a Leftist in San Francisco or Oakland, California (highly likely), you probably cheered as the city implemented a Minimum Wage Hike last summer raising the wage to $13 an hour, soon to be $14 an hour this July 1, and $15 an hour on July 1, 2018. On the other hand, if you were a restaurant owner, you probably felt your heart sink when the decision was announced, as it seemed highly likely that you could be run out of business by the hike. You would have been right.
In the winter of 2016-17, 64 restaurants around the Bay Area have closed and these weren’t your garden-variety restaurants that were parts of national chains; they closed all over the area, from Berkeley to Hayes Valley to Oakland to the Embarcadero to Inner Richmond to the Marina to the financial district.
Progressive policy again fails !!!!!!!!!! LMMFAO
For the Progressives here are the links ! http://sfgov.org/olse/minimum-wage-ordinance-mwo https://sf.eater.com/2016/12/9/13901596/ Progressives issues are job killers !!!!!!! It's not a terrible surprise. Anyone with half a brain could tell that any small stores and restaurants like mom and pop ones wouldn't be able to pay such an exorbitant amount. Most large establishments are just firing people to reduce staff, reducing hours which makes the employee quit or moving to a more mechanized service where machines do the work instead. It's heart breaking to see the small businesses be forced out. The problem isn't raising minimum wage. It's that the cost of living in the Bay as a whole is so high there aren't enough skilled restaurant workers who can afford to live there to keep a restaurant boom going. Conservative news source are shameless in their spin. |
