well talking aloud to yourself can be fun but if you are creating a whole conversation with yourself that can be a little creepy

It's the best way to talk things through (although it creeps some people out so I usually write my thoughts down instead)and make decisions. Plus, there's no sweeter sound to most people than the sound of their own voice.

I agree with PrayerFails in that speaking - not to oneself, but just speech itself - can help organize thoughts, and I often engage in the practice if there is something that I must remember. However, I cannot say that I have ever engaged myself in conversation save for about half a minute ago, in preparation for this debate. Not that bad, but not too fun, either.

If I'm trying to get things straight in my mind I talk to myself a lot. But it helps some people.
