Although students may check social media during class, technology is still beneficial to society in many ways. For example, technology is used quite often during school to help the students learn at their own pace. If students can work at their own pace, they are more likely to remember what they learned. Also, if the students are able to work at their own pace on computers, tablets, etc., it will free up time for the students who have questions or need assistance can get the attention they need. Technological advancement is not only good but essential to living in the world. Vaccines are essential today for fighting not only present day viruses but also past viruses. For example, the bubonic plague, the disease responsible for one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, currently has a 1-15% mortality rate compared to the 40-60% mortality rate when not treated. This plague also wiped out 60% of Europe's entire population. Vaccines have made this disease curable to the point today it isn’t even a threat. Technology also allows us to progress in research of any field. If we have the ability to learn the cure to any disease, bio-chemical warfare becomes insignificant if we can just treat the people being harmed. As long as technology keeps advancing, past technology becomes inferior. This applies to both military and civilian life. We have new technology that makes the old technology harmless. For example, a ship that is made out of wood compared to a ship made of steel will be significantly worse than the ship with steel. This allows transportation and military use to benefit from the new technology. Tech doesn’t need to be purely military or health related either, it can be educational as well. Technology enables us to learn nearly anything with a press of a couple keys. This is extremely useful, but it can always be improved with technology. The argument against technology usually deals with ethics, that it is making us less human and more robot. However, human life has changed consistently throughout the ages and we are still human. Technology has helped prevent accidents in the newer cars because of their ability to sense things in front of the car which can easily prevent an accident from happening along with connecting phones, ipods and other bluetooth/wireless devices making them completely hands free, which also makes it safer when driving. You could argue that people could hack into these new advanced cars and be able to control them to say crash or malfunction but there would be software to protect the cars and the people driving them from such hackers. The progress of technology is a positive attribute to society and the future world, because of the two reasons below. The first reason being the advancement of medical technology allowing people to live longer and healthier for a longer period of time. In essence live life. The new medical technology could cure chronic diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, etc. The second reason being it conserving energy and locate alternatives for non-renewable resources. Technology is good because it helps us to communicate with others that aren’t close by. Technological Progress Is Bad! Technological process is bad because people can bully people over the internet with little to no consequences. A rebuttal to this can be the terms and conditions will prevent or stop this, but the website admins have to be on the site checking it to ban or get rid of the person and the person can make a new account. Also a site may be able to stop bad words but mean comments. Another reason for technological process being bad is less or no social skills because the internet can be a huge part of your life but you can talk to people little and not develop those skills. Even messaging sites can not help because you may not be talking to a real person or you are not in person talking to them. Also emotion and expression is hard to show in text. To add more, you could not learn how to do certain things in life, for example changing a tire or fixing a faucet. People may say that something like a Youtube video could explain how to do those things. A youtube video may explain this but unless you are applying it and doing it yourself at the same time, you do not retain the information as well. Handwriting can get worse as a result of technological progress because you will be typing more than writing with a pen or a pencil. Handwriting is important because you have to sign things in your signature and you have to write papers for classes. A rebuttal to this could be that teachers at school have their students write more than they type, but that is only for 40 minutes most likely or less. I believe that technological advancement is bad. My first reason is because bad people like ISIS could use it against us. Next if we make big robots, they could be hacked. My third reason is that they could turn against us like in the movie I, Robot. If we become very dependent on technology, and all the power on earth went out, we would all mostly die. While I don't disagree with all of your argument your statement about being reliant on technologies made me think, if we got to a stage where we were so reliant on technology that if we couldn't use it we would die (a mass amount) we would have found more effective ways to create and use our own power. So not only would relying on technology not be an issue, but we could create our own power helping keep our earth habitable for longer and meaning we needn't worry about using coal or other non-renewable power sources and those running out. I don’t think we should have so much technological advancement. Things we have now in terms of transportation, such as cars or trams, are good for long distance traveling. People seem to abuse it though. They are making us much lazier than we should be, i’ve heard of people getting in their cars and driving to the end of the driveway just to get the mail. With new technology, we’ll only get lazier, think of all the people in hover chairs in the movie Wall-e. Automation of products is also a large concern due to the cutting of jobs. Machines make things much more efficiently and at a lower cost. If you were concerned about Mexicans taking American jobs, think again, the real threat is automation. Technology is Bad Debate The increase in technology can offer many new opportunities for advances in learning and communication, but offers just as many dangers People can often become addicted to their devices, almost never leaving their phones sides or spending hours a day on the computer or console. These things can often make people antisocial and a loner among our peers. It also offers many new dangers such as cyberbullying. Some people may unconsciously believe that the internet is like a separate world where it can not influence the real world at all, which may make people more likely to be cruel or lack a filter when talking to peers. These things can really upset people and make people lose their confidence, and in extreme cases may attempt suicide. This issue being one that came wholly from the increased strength in technology. There is also the danger of hackers accessing personal and critical information, seeing how many companies store their information within computers. And even without the threat of hackers there is the threat of losing a lot of valuable data because of a crash or power outage, and though many companies will store their info in cloud data, some people who store their info at home often may not and thus, are likely to lose them. Though many people will argue all the good it has done. Websites like Google or Bing allow people to access information much easier as well as spread it. Not to mention it is easy to store and access data through the files, and appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, etc. make life easier allowing us more time to enjoy our life. And that is true to a point. Advances like microwaves and data storing devices are very useful and good advantages that technology offers. But long ago have we crossed the line between useful and unnecessary. Technology is bad because Technology pretty much runs our lives these days. From our work life to our home life, we have computers, phones, and gadgets helping us with our daily routine. Some Forms of technology, including, but not limited to Drones, Nuclear Bombs/Warheads, WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction, Same as nuclear bombs) are bad. They cause destruction, fear, and paranoia to all ends of society. Not to mention, we should learn from our mistakes. Take for example, the red scare, when the russians and americans constantly built their nuclear arsenal. There is lots of things that you can do on technology that is bad for you some of those reasons are that there are people like hackers, there is cyber bullying, and there are things like the deep dark web. Hackers are bad for technology because they can do lots of harm. They can steal your information and do bad things with it. This is identity theft and they can go to jail for doing this. Hackers are also bad because they can do millions of dollars in damage. One instance is that a hacker group called Lizard Squad hacked PSN. This caused lots of damage in money. Of course there are good hackers that help companies find their flaws and actually do good.
There are also cyber bullies. This is bad for kids because they can be impacted. They can be impacted mentally and this can be bad for them because they can be impacted for life. This is bad for the kids because they will have a bad life and they could have to go to places like metal doctors. Of course there is good things about social media like they can communicate with lots of people. There is something called the deep dark web that is used for illegal things. Why tech is bad I believe that technology is a bad thing. Yes, it may have made a lot of amazing, super awesome, really cool advancements in the society that we know today, but there is also a lot of problems with it. My first reason that it has had a bad effect on society is that it has had a bad effect on the natural resources in the world. What happens is that the technology that we use to harness all of these natural resources are harvesting them way too fast and we don't realize just how fast we are ridding the world of all of these natural resources that we need to survive. To add insult to injury, the irresponsible manufacturing of technology causes a lot of air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. It has filled the land, air, and water with terrible toxins. And because of pollution more and more people will be getting sick everyday. Which is very bad for society, especially if it's someone famous who has made many huge contributions to society. Not only has technology due to pollution made man more prone to sickness but many developments in terms in nuclear warfare and warfare in general has made it much more possible for world extinction. I mean think about it, we could take out a whole country with just a few nuclear codes and the click of a button and then after that there would be complete nuclear warfare and the whole world would just be a fallout. On the other side of the topic, technology can also be a good thing because of how much it has advanced us over the years. But because we have advanced so much in society do to technology we have also backtracked in many different ways. We have definitely backtracked in our social skills because the more time we spend on technology the more we lose in terms of our social skills.
