I believe so.

But not because of the fact that it is bilateral but because it is plutocratic.

Plutocracy does not make a totalitarianism, totalitarianism makes a totalitarianism.

Then why would you create this debate?

Under your logic, this is a straight up, black/white question. A representative democracy "does not make a totalitarianism, totalitarianism makes a totalitarianism."

The two parties are similar, and due to the electoral system and cost of running for political office much of America finds itself unrepresented. The candidates are filtered by the corporations and upper class that donate to the super PACs and pay for media coverage. In the end, you have nothing but overly educated pedicured tools running for office that can't critically think. Its no surprise they tend to not do what is in the best interest of the people, nor to really represent them.

A more direct system would be much better,or at least one that uses delegates instead of representatives and where the delegates are controlled by smaller areas. Perhaps a formula can be created that divides the country based on population density, I already have a couple ideas for one.

What is the difference between an Authoritarian and an Democracy?

At least in a democracy, the people choose their dictator.

What makes you think that the peoples' choice is any better? Hitler was elected. I think a monarch would be best, if any leader is required, for in all of history few monarchs have been as bad as the common president.
