The Moral of this story?

The Tortoise and the Hare.

After reading this person's take on it I first agreed that the original moral, based on the story's parameters, was indeed wrong, then I agreed began to think about what other morals could be present in this story, based on the context of the story.

What do you think other morals to this timless fable could be?

I feel a better moral than "slow and steady wins the race" would be perseverance gives you the potential to win the race.

It's not as catchy but I feel it's more honest. Had the Hare not been an idiot, he could have easily won the race, but it's also true that had the tortoise not persevered he'd have had no chance at all.

I agree with the assessment that the moral should be learned from the hare. I totally forgot about the stated moral about slow and steady and thought about what should have been learned. I came to the conclusion that the lesson to be learned is that you can't be lazy just because your opponent is weak.
