i agree that some people deserve to die for the crimes they have committed. however, with that being said, there is always the chance that the person convicted is really completely innocent. SOOO... if there is ever a way that we can be 100% positive that the person convicted is the person that actually did the crime, than i will then agree with having the death penalty. Side: Against
Well there is always that chance that they will be innocent for a smaller crime or even rape. I was talking about murder and obviously a proven murder. So for those cases I do agree with the death penalty. I have a murdered family member so I know what it feels like to be on the other side hoping for a conviction and not getting one because of people who feel bad for the murderer or getting one but he only gets to serve 10 years Side: For
The death penalty was never intended to be a deterrent. It was intended to bring closure to the family of the victims and a sense of justice, and yes, revenge. I don't see one thing wrong with it. If you have 5000 criminals and I am the one falsely accused/convicted man; I would still accept the punishment as I feel it is for the benefit of the greater good of mankind. And if I'm innocent, I know it will be nice and cool where I'm going. Side: For

An eye for an eye is never the answer. Murder is against the law whether it is a monster doing it or the government doing it to the monster. The convicted murderer should be imprisoned for life (life being life) they should have all privileges taken away like contact with relatives/other people apart from the guards and be kept in solitary confinement. There is a percentage that people who suffer the death penalty where innocent. It costs more tax payer's money to use the capitol punishment than it does to support someone in prison for life. Why kill someone to show that killing is wrong. Confucious once said "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". Side: Against
