Definitely classical music. Most of the modern genres are having their roots in it. It is true that classical music is not for the non-initiated, but as we grow older and we acquire more life and emotional experience we accept and we start to feel connected to this complex, elevated, subtle, noble and mystical world of classical harmonies. It is a mysterious phenomena as love is. Each age feel the love in a different way and love the music in a different register. 676 days ago
Flocke is a polar bear cub who was born in captivity at the Nuremberg Zoo in 2007. A few weeks after her birth, she was removed from her mother's care after concerns were raised for her safety. Although the zoo had established a strict non-interference policy with its animals, officials chose to raise the cub by hand. Reggae, it has the most positive message out of any music ever. I'm not talking about that Sean Paul Synth-Pop gangsta reggae crap, I'm talking about Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Eek-a-Mouse, et al. Just listen to the lyrics ie. "life is worth much more than gold","one good thing about music [is that] when it hits you feel no pain", "Have no fear for atomic energy, cause none of them can stop the time"...etc. Bob is undoubtedly one of the best musical artists of all time & reggae is spiritually uplifting. Everything he says is so true and the genre he helped create is my favorite. 676 days ago
Country.... America's music!! It makes me feel like being outside, having a beer, enjoying the day. It is wholesome in comparison to most other genres out there and the lyrics usually have a good message. If you've never been to a country concert in the summer, you are definitely missing out! 676 days ago
Exactly! I definitely agree! Country is so American! It's the music of the people, with the people's stories at the very foundation of the lyrics...the style is perfectly natural becuase it exemplifies the american ideal and combines folk with classic rock. Country is romantic, realistic, people's music, and it's the best ever! 668 days ago
The best type of music is the music that stimulates your senses and/or makes you happy. It is TOTALLY about personal choice, and my opinion is different from yours, and yours, and even yours. I personally listen to everything, from Classical to Punk, from Country to Death Metal, and enjoy much of everything I hear. I gravitate towards 80's Alternative, hard rock from any timeframe, Classic Rock and 50's 60's oldies, but that's me.... 676 days ago
I really like classic rock for the feelings it creates. I love music that makes me think, music with a message and thus i love music like bob dylans, neil youngs, and the clash. i also have lately listened to a lot of bob marley because it is hopeful music that makes me happy. music that means something is the best kinda of music for while i love the sounds i want to know how the artist feels as well. 673 days ago
This debate is all about personal preference. Personally, I enjoy all types of music. (I even listen to a little bit of country ack!) You guys ever listen to Pandora Radio? It let's you create personalized radio stations based and the specific songs that you enjoy. It uses data from the Music Genome Project to determine what else you might like. I have been into it for about a year now and it really knows what kind of music I like now. 676 days ago
Indie music, classical, ambient, jazz, folk, classic rock, rock in general.. well, basically I like different types of music EXCEPT hip-hop thing and death gothic and metal and all that crap of satanic and black.. argh i hate that. Oh and punk, too. Everthing else (music) has a meaning for me, I like music that makes me dream and carries me to another world, to my inside.. and meditate about my challenges and feelings now and when I grow up. Let me suggest you to hear Yann Tiersen, Aimee Mann, Bob Dylan, Beirut..it's so pureless and bucolic... 666 days ago
Since this is a very broad subject, I'll narrow it down to modern music for my choice. Progressive rock I think is one of the more innovative genres that have arisen in the last few decades. Frank Zappa, Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson - some of the most creative and original sounding bands in rock and rol. Prog combines the best of rock and classical music, integrating extended song formats, complex arrangements, multi-movement pieces, odd time signatures and generally an elevated technical complexity to the music. One prog metal band, Tool, is one of the most creative forces in rock music today. I'm not denying the importance of classical music, rhythm and blues, New Orleans jazz, or classic rock in the evolution of modern music. But I personally think prog is some of the most original-sounding music you can find these days. In a world of I IV V chord progressions in 4/4 with the same backbeat and the same verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus song format, progressive rock is a breath of fresh air. 663 days ago
My god, I couldn't agree more! Though it's dangerous to try and classify Tool. I call them Primal Metal because their use of heavy polyrhyhms and complex hemiolas rooted in traditional aborigony music. Not to mention Danny's array of obscure instruments. I'm surprised you knew of King Crimson as well. 39 days ago
