The meaning of life.

The meaning of life has been long thought about and yet.... not a conclusion ever reached. Jokingly the meaning of life is the number 42 from recent pop culture. What I want to do is propose that the meaning of life is simply, to observe and give purpose to an otherwise pointless universe. If you agree state why and if you disagree do the same.

The OP suggests that the meaning of life is subjective to your own imagination. The meaning of life is objective or it has no certain meaning and cannot be defined.

I know the meaning of life. It's really very simple. Life means that God is good. Those who will not accept this truth will always be confused about the meaning of life and try to make it subjective if they decide that life should have any meaning at all.

Your life is the sum of all the choices made in your life. Some of those choices are made for you, like your genetics, where you're born, and whether or not a wild animal tries to eat you. But most of the choices, big but especially small, we make ourselves every day in the way we choose to live our lives. Whether it's read or play, whether it's exercise or sit at a TV, whether it's exercise or not, all accumulate into answering who you are and what your life means. And whether or not you breed and pass on to additional lives, and how you contribute to the enrichment of those lives, is also part of it.

The religious of course disagree. They have their simple formula of instructions based on their religion and say we're all fools to think it's anything more than that. But I say if you can only find your meaning by turning to Bronze Age literature and the promises of your version of a flying spaghetti monster then you have surrendered the most meaningful forms of choice in how you live your lives. In that respect, your life is no more meaningful than an Aztec priest who got his meaning by cutting the hearts out of his vicitms in offering to a god. And just like you'd say that priest ultimately had a choice. He could have woke up and said this is crazy and found something else to do to give him meaning, the same can be said about any other person who finds the answer to this question in religion. The usual suspects on this site will now try to flog me for not giving a religious answer. As you watch them attempt that then just keep thinking about what I said about the Aztec priest. And as the Evangelicals try to tell you that all that matters isn't your behaviors but instead that you believe a specific set of facts, then know the opposite is true. The only god worth following is a god that rewards good behavior. Because if your god rewards bad behavior, or is indifferent to bad behavior as long as you kiss his ass the right way, then you might as well be following an Aztec god with blood lust.

The meaning of life is to live your fullest until something devastating happened which will end it. To live a life, you have to face challenges. If you're poor, you strive for a better job and more money. If you're rich and famous, you can be known as someone bad or have everything with no goal in life. This will make your life boring. The meaning of life is simple, to have a chance to experience contentment, anger, sadness, and envy.

What you have stated is not the meaning of life, it is your philosophy on what you feel you should do with your time.....

and why does being rich and famous have anything to do with the meaning of life? Do you think that not being rich or famous gives you a clearer insight to the meaning of life?

How does your idea of the meaning of life apply to a person who does not have legs or to a person who is mentally incapacitated? And again, you have not defined the meaning of life, you have only spoken of your philosophy on what you want and why you want it.

And I still can't understand why you feel you have to divide people into two groups, the poor being what you think are better and the rich and famous being bad....it sounds like Communist Manifesto bitterness.

The only definition of the meaning of life which stands true regardless of the circumstances or actions or any individual being (human or non-human) is that God is good....Life means God is good. God gives life because He is good. He offers eternal life to all who will believe on His Son who died for their sins and rose from the dead; to all who will admit that they deserve to die and burn in Hell forever and who will receive His Son by faith as He is, the Living God, the only Savior.

If the meaning of life is to do good things, or to enjoy or experience challenges, success, and failures, then it is all futile and loses all meaning in death....so living becomes a religion in which the best a person can hope for is to be exonerated in death so that they are exempt from eternity in the fire of Hell while never having any way of knowing they have earned this right.

Repent of all your sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. If you won't believe, you will be damned....and that means eternity frying like a sausage in the lake of fire which is the second death, similar to the death an unbeliever is in now except with nothing good from God and fire which the lost experience as passion against God's goodness while those who have eternal life will see the smoke of their torments rising forever showing the goodness of God in punishing evil while His nail pierced hands and feet testify to His love and mercy in that He gave Himself for His creation to save it from the fire of Hell.

Life means that God is good....God gave you life because He is good, He wants you to have eternal life and He can give it because He is God.....but you have to believe, trust Him, and be reconciled to Him on His terms or you will have eternal death, dying like you are now forever in the flaming garbage pit of Hell.

Most people think that life means whatever you decide that it means....this is nonsense. An honest person who does not know the meaning of life would say they do not know the meaning of life but they are going through it doing good or evil or whatever mixture of the two they feel suits them. The truth is that whoever says life means whatever you want it to mean has no idea what the meaning of life is whether or not they are trying to make sense out of it.
