CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
The old Left was somewhat like the modern Right. The new left is psychopathy
Accurate.
One of the biggest ironies is that many/(possibly) most people on the "right" today would be seen as the most extreme "liberals" during the middle of the 20th century--as society has gotten so much more "relaxed" about morals, traditions, etc., as opposed to the 'firm grip' that was once present. Essentially, the modern "left" is now demanding that we get so "relaxed" that there is no 'tension' left in the fist, whatsoever.
Edit: To add--a lot/most of what the "left" is asking for we already have in America. As well what i commented on originally, there is also free/affordable College, there are basic medical plans that are only $100 a month, rental/housing is affordable, the cost of living is not outrageous, everyone (legal citizen) has "a chance", etc. etc. etc.

Hello x:
Uhhh, no.
You're smarter than me. I'm not historical. I dunno classic liberalism from modern liberalism. And, frankly, I'm not especially interested in discussing it.. But, I DO know how stuff is ON the ground..
Call it whatever you like, but fifty years ago, I saw a WRONG in racism, and I STILL see that wrong today.. You can see it too, right? It manifests itself in gerrymandering and voter suppression..
We can discuss it on another thread, but my point is, the left wing is FAR from being satisfied.

50(ish) years ago there was certainly a serious problem of racism, the left at the time fought for, and overwhelmingly was successful. I am a millennial, and the society i grew up in looks absolutely nothing like what was presented in the movie "Remember the Titans"--which is a very good thing.
Now, is racism still alive--yes, of course. Yet, it is among thousands of different kinds of prejudice that people in America (or, just generally) face. It would be very difficult to demonstrate conclusively now that person "x" did not get "y" opportunity, specifically due to race rather than a number of other factors, some of which could also be unwarranted prejudice. Previously, it was very clear when black American's were being treated like X-men mutants. How would one go about proving such a claim, and also is there not abundant evidence of success through other avenues available?
Also, many other things the previous left wanted they have essentially gotten--though are pushing it ever further. We can discuss such issues if you like on other threads. I understand a lot of where you may be coming from as, I was formerly a left-leaning independent, and now see alternatives to many of these matters that were not apparent before.
If interested, bullet point some of the key issues, as you see it, and we could discuss elsewhere.
The libs are out of noble causes to carry on about. That's why they've went to nutjob causes like there are 100 genders, inanimate objects and animals have hundreds of genders, I can have a therapy elephant on a plane, I'm an Indian even though I'm not, punch a fascist if you can find one, run people out of restaurants, shoot people at softball games, attack people in their yard, etc
If you have a few minutes, look at the side-by-sides of previous generations High Schools compared to now--it illustrates the general point i am making very well.
I saw nothing that compares how millennials feel about racism vs how my generation felt.. If you're saying they don't care because they have other things on their plates, I'd agree with that..
I'm NOT doubting the progress we've made.. I'm decrying the progress we have yet to make.. Being free is like being pregnant.. You either are or you're not..
Nobody is ever going to be free from human prejudice. How would one go about proving black people are uniquely discriminated against in oppurtunity, specifically for only being black in the modern day? It seems difficult to substantiate --can you think of a way?
On an individual basis, no. But, on an institutional basis, yes. You need look no further than the drug war and our mass incarceration rate. Those numbers are very revealing.

I think drugs should be legalized within certain orderly parameters, and that most non-violent crimes should not be punishable by jail-time, but rather community service and fines that can accrue in the way of debt that is extracted from future paycheck/taxes.
Also, you would agree, the 'drug war' effects much more than just black citizens(?)
Actually, the most hilarious thing to me is that while above average, Nom/Hootie/Quantumhead actually makes grammatical errors from time to time on top of grammatical 'less than optimal 'punctuation.
Which of the two do I and Dermot use? I am dead-certain it's not due to that difference; at least remember your own conspiracy theories.
For instance, right here your first question is after a comma'd non-question. You would be better off using either a semi colon and deleting the 'but' or a full-stop and deleting the 'but'.
Also when you say 'American and British English' you must realise that under STRICT OCD level of grammar and spelling analysis that you use, the list reads:
1. American
2. British English
NOT
1. American English
2. British English.
So, you should (under very strict grammar rules) do the following:
EITHER
American English and British English
OR
English of the American and British variants.
You arguably could do this:
"American (and British) English" but this would imply what's in the brackets is a separate, optional, item to read when it's not.
I'm NOT doubting the progress we've made.. I'm decrying the progress we have yet to make.. Being free is like being pregnant.. You either are or you're not..
We were making pretty good progress until libs decided identity politics was a useful weapon. Now we've jumped back 50 years. The fact is, the Democrat Party would disappear if we made the actual progress needed. So, they'll make sure that progress never happens.

Classical liberals didn't sound like children in debates. Modern liberals sound like 4 year olds, using horrible logic and screaming in your face if you disagree.
I'm the old left.. I'm NOT like the modern right, or even the old fashioned right.. I'm NOTHING like the right. If I was like them, I'd have to KILL myself..
The "old right" (The GOP), was somewhat like the modern left. You know, willing to compromise? Even Donald Trump supported "left wingers", but then, he got psychopathy of the brain, found he could act REALLY crazy and the right would accept that as "normal". That sat well with his ,,,, what we used to call "hardening of the arteries". His new "friends" seem to think that's a GREAT thing, the more Psycho, the better! He's happier now, the left was beginning to think he was NUTS! ;-)
