The role and the power of UN can certainly be scrutinized especially when you see this organization is failing in virtually every attempt it's been making-Yemen Crisis,ISIS and BOKO HARAM ravaging;it took it almost 40 years to pronounce 'Apartheid' a social crime;Hardly any significant sanctions were imposed on Russia after Crimea-annexation.No resolving of Kashmir dispute in India,No help is reached out to the helpless in Ethiopia, what does it really do?An organization with a respectable name only! Side: It only abides USA's advice.

Also, the UN does not just follow the US. The security council permanent members include China and Russia. Don't really have to explain those. France has never been a staunch ally of the US. Only UK supports the US. Also, I have no idea why you think the UN is suppose to be "pivotal in resolving disputes". Its charter even says it only promotes and encourages co-operation. Nothing about forcing countries to drop disputes. Side: Pivotal in resolving disputes
