This is an outrage
This is why I hate Islam it is the religion of intolerance. While we here in the U.S bend the rules so that "native" Americans can smoke paodein as part of there rituals Christians in Iran have to suffer under the oppression of sharia law which un like our laws dosent make exceptions for religious practices and in fact out laws all religions other than Islam ARNT WE SUPPOSED TO BE OPPOSED TO THAT SORT OF THING WHY DO WE REFUSE TO PUT A STOP TO THIS? 100 years ago the muslems would be facing justice at the hands of the Crusading army's of Chrisindom for these transgressions. God they are lucky we moved past their level.
You're religion is no better really if you consider that Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity and Islamic countries did not have the enlightenment era that most Christian countries had. 600 years ago Christianity was just as bad as Islam is today.
It isn't Islam that is awful just religion in general.
Christianity is not a peaceful religion even today just less violent. Abortion clinics have been attacked and people killed, Buddhist temples, have been destroyed by them, innocent peoples funerals have been picketed and disrupted by them spreading there hateful message.
And Your Religion is no better because when You're religion was at the same age as Islam it was just as violent, when Islam is old as Christianity is now it could be as peaceful as Christianity is now.
My point is it is not Islam that is the problem it is religion in general. Religion is what incites violence and hatred in people and causes tensions between them.
You seem to blame the religion instead of the people. You must remember that not all Christians do these things. If that were the case if an Atheist did something terrible I could say Atheists are evil, however this is not the case. The religion itself advocates peace for the modern era. It's up to the individual to decide how it influences them and it's up to them to commence these attacks. However the religion never said to attack Abortion Clinics. It never said attack Temples. They individual does. You are blaming a religion for the actions of humans.
Are you saying that Warrior is correct in his assessment that all of Islam is bad? Warrior makes it sound like every Christian has evolved past this bad behavior.
Not at all, Cartman. His connotation is full of, hopefully he doesn't get mad over this, but ignorance simply due to favoritism of one religion over another. I don't agree with him. Many humans do bad things. Believers and non believers alike. So him saying that is mostly worse in my opinion. Is this clear enough? Or would you like me to further clarify? I can if you wish, Cartman. I truly do not mind. :)
Ok, I was worried about you for a second. TheEccentric was pointing out that Christianity is not the religion of peace. That only means that he needs to find an example of Christians doing something bad. But, he isn't saying that all Christians are not peaceful just that not 100% of Christians are peaceful. I don't think that was an attempt to show that Christianity is bad because of those people whereas Warrior is doing that for Islam.
That only means that he needs to find an example of Christians doing something bad.
I disagree with this sentence of yours, Cartman. The religion itself must be tested for it's connotation of peace. The individuals are not the religion.
I guess he and I are just holding a higher standard. I think a true religion of peace would be peaceful no matter how it is followed. Obviously that is impossible, but I hope that helps. In this instance he is not trying to say Christianity is bad because it is not a religion of peace. I think this makes a difference. If he is trying to say that Christianity is bad because of those individuals, that would be irresponsible. When he is saying Christianity is not a religion of peace I hear him saying that it is possible to find Christians who aren't peaceful, that's all.
It's human nature for us to fight and if it weren't for religion we would find a different reason to kill one another. Not all wars were started because of religion.
And your claim that Catholicism was once as violent as Islam is false. Catholicism early on focused on spreading through converting Pagans. we did this by incorporating elements of their religions and cultures into our religion thus making converting a more comfortable experience for them. Islam spread by converting people under the threat of death. Islam will never be peaceful it was founded in violence.
That's Rome. Prior to the conversion practicing Christianity was punishable by death. The out lapwing of paganism was most likely done out of a seance of poetic justice rather an religious fervor.
Christians back then used to preach that Rome would eventually burn. Nobody thought much of it until Rome actually started to burn. Coming to the conclusion that it was arson, the obvious suspects were the Christians. The people demanded justice, so Nero (probably the most evil of all Roman emperors) responded by brutally torturing and killing Christian citizens. The Romans who demanded justice started feeling pity for the Christians and anger towards Nero. Nero eventually committed suicide, but it took a while for the pagan citizens to feel comfortable around Christians.
Christians back then were often believed to be atheists who took part in cannibalism and incest. One thing that really impacted their image though, was the fact that they refused to offer sacrifices to the Roman emperor, which was in a sense, treason.
Again all of this I know. What I don't know is how this is relivent to the question of how many Gods does Christianity have. Side question who do you think was crazier Nero or Caligula? I mean yeah Nero was crazy but Caliguala. I mean come on the dude appointed his horse as a senator.
Hmm... Caligula was pretty crazy. I think the most reasonable thing he did was probably allowing the Jews to stay in Alexandria, but that was of course after Philo had to change some verses in Old Testament in order to convince Caligula that the Jews were harmless. On a side note, those changes that Philo made are still in the Bible today.
Anyways, the story of Caligula appointing his horse as a consul came from a writer who lived decades after Caligula. Historians believe that it was based off of rumor and legend.
Who was crazier? Probably Caligula. Who was more evil? I'd have to go with Nero. Not only did he brutally torture and execute Christians for a crime he didn't have proof that they committed, but he also murdered his own mother (who was kind of evil herself), his first wife and he kicked his second wife to death while she was pregnant with his child.
Was it Nero or Caligula who wrote the play that lasted for days and people literally died watching because leaving to eat or drink or even use the bathroom would get you arrested? I want to say it was Nero but part of me says it was Caligula.
Probably Nero, he was really into the arts (theatre, music, etc.). I doubt it's true though. Kind of like with the story of how Nero played the fiddle while Rome was burning. The fiddle wasn't even invented until the 16th century. There are actually records from ancient Romans claiming that Nero had personally helped put the fire out and rescue citizens. The closest thing to the fiddle story is that he supposedly played the lute to comfort some of the survivors. So, there's a lot of rumors surrounding Nero, but one thing that historians agree on is that he killed his mother, two wives (as well as his unborn child) and possibly his step brother, so he was far from a heroic character.
Right I always doubted the fiddle story because as you said it hadn't been invented yet but it does sort of fit with the kind of person Nero was. As for him helping put out the fire and rescuing people that was probably fabricated to make him look good to the Roman people it just doesn't sound like something he would do. I mean this is the guy who liked to wear animal skin and torture Christians.
No, it really doesn't sound like something he'd do, but many sources from that time period said that he did. You have to keep in mind that although he was hateful and evil at times, he still loved Rome. He wouldn't have wanted his empire to burn. He also likely had a love for the people that worshipped him, which would be the "true" Romans. Christians refused to worship him and the Roman deities, so he didn't care for them.
Catholics forced conversion through torture and the threat of death throughout history. In fact there are many ways today that shows christianity is also as bad as Islam:
1. Several places in Africa, parents are burning their young innocent daughters to death because they think they are witches, as it puts in the bible:
You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)
2. The Catholic church has been moving and protecting pedophiles for ages.
3. The Catholic Church discourages condom use in AIDS infested parts of the world like Africa, further adding to the spread of HIV.
4. Laws are being passed everyday in the USA through the influence of evangelical christianity that limits womens rights, gay rights, and minority rights.
5. In Russia, the growing influence of the Orthodox church is bringing in laws that discriminate against the gays, minorities, and free speech of the countries population
several places in Africa, parents are burning their young innocent daughters because they think they are witches, as it puts it in the bible your surprised that horrific acts of barbarism are occurring in Africa? Dude ITS AFRICA.
the Catholic Church has been moving a and protecting pedophiles for years. all priests are citizens of the Vatican so when they commit crimes it falls into the very tricky realm of international law. And the Catholic Criminal justice system is 100% restorative focussing on fixing the problem that led the to commit the act then putting them back out to preach rather than punishment.
the Catholic Church discourages condom use in AIDS infested parts of the world like Africa further adding to the spread of HIV true but what you forgot to mention is that the Catholic Church contributes heavily to AIDS research. And operate hospitals in these regions which provide healthcare to the poor free of charge.
laws are being passed in the USA every day through the influence of evangelical Christianity that limit women' rights, gay's rights , and minority rights straight up false. Fetuscide isn't a right, marriage isn't a right, and as someone who lives in America I don't know what your talking about with regards to minority rights. Hell now a days minority's have more rights than white people.
And as for #5 I don't know much about that but Russia being an oppressive state is not news, Czars, Stalin and friends, Putin, they have bad luck with government.
And the torture you are referring to was the inquisition and that was when the Church was corrupt and ruled by the Borgias wich where a renaissance mafia.
1. Theses acts are condoned in the bible, their following its rules, these acts were comitted by european christians during the Middle Ages.
2. How come their are still sex abuses popping up in the catholic church? They have done nothing to fix the problem, the pope and all those preists should have been tried.
3. True, the catholic church does have missionaries and hospitals in Africa that contribute to helping AIDS victims, but only at the price of the people to convert to Catholicism. Also, they aren't contributing anything to AIDs research, they are interrupting it with their anti-contraception stance.
4. I don't like abortion, but it is not up to me or you on what a woman does with her own body, besides, if that baby is born to a mother who doesnt want it (and lacking social programs that conservative christians want to cut funding to) do you think that child will have a good life? Marriage is a right, if a person can't marry someone else that they love you are denying them of their rights. Btw, minorities still have a hard time in this country, I live in the south and I will tell you from experience, racism is alive and well down here.
As for your argument on the " corrupt" catholic church, its been that way for ages since its beginning and everything they have done is in the bible, the Catholicism you see today is the "watered down" version that ignores the bible.
2. If you want to try the priests fine but the pope didn't do anything.
3 of course they are there to help the Catholics. Their supply's are limited so there simply aren't enough for the heathens.
Also the Vatican donates large sums of money to AIDS research Cancer research too.
4 a. It's not the women's doty that's primarily being effected its the baby's, though since you bring it up the women's body is also adversely effected by the abortion procedure internal organ damage. Internal bleeding, sterilization, depression, difficulty connecting with family and their children (if they ever have any) and of course death. And if the mother doesn't want the baby or can't provide for it the A she shouldn't be fucking around and B she could put it up for adoption rather than kill it.
b. Where in the bill of rights does it say marriage is a right?
C. Any group of people who can get scholarships or even just straight up admission into collage because of there race is not oppressed I don't care what the race batters say. And the "racism" your referring to isn't just in the south and it could have more to do with white people getting sick of black people's shit. Slavery ended 150 years ago none of you were alive to have been effected by it, segregation ended about 60 years ago move on. Black people make up 15% of the population, commit 75% of the nations violent crime! and make up more than 85% of the nations prison population! a black man is more likely to be killed by another Black man than he is by any other cause of death. And yet they say its our fault? No fuck you clean your damn house then talk to us about ours until the please drop all your complaints about "racism" into the "to be shredded" pile -sincerely white people. (To be clear I don't hate black people I just get tired of their whining and blaming all their problems on us "boo hoo my ancestors were slaves" BITCH IM CATHOLIC MY ANCESTORS WHERE FED TO LIONS. GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT WEAK SHIT.)
d. The Catholic Church today teaches straight from the bible. The difference is now a days we focus more on the New Testament rather than the old.
Instructions to Kill non christians (as well as fellow christians) is in the bible:
1. Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God:
" Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)
2. Kill Followers of Other Religions:
1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)
2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)
3. Kill People for Working on the Sabbath:
The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)
4.Infidels and Gays Should Die:
So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved. When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They are forever inventing new ways of sinning and are disobedient to their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and unforgiving. They are fully aware of God's death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway. And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. (Romans 1:24-32 NLT)
5. Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests:
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
6. Kill Nonbelievers:
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
7. If A Man Rapes A Woman, He Should Marry Her:
"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."
(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)
8. Death To Rape Victim:
"If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife."
(Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)
9. Rape Of Female Captives:
"When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."
(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB)
10. Sex Slaves:
"When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment." (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
Christian inspired atrocities:
1. Crusades
2.Spanish Inquisition
3. Witch hunts
4. Mass muder, enslavement, and forced relocation of native americans
5. Enslavement of Africans
6. Holocaust (Hitler identified as catholic many times and in his speech at the Reichstag in 1936 he said: “I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty
Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord’s work.”)
7. Bombing of abortion clinics
8. Rwandan Genocide
9. Genocide of Bosnian Muslims in the Ygoslavic wars of the 90's
10. Ngo Diems perseccution of buddhists during his rule of South Vietnam
11. Destruction of Pagans during the Christian rule of the Roman Empire
12. The Catholic Church "Pedophile" network
13. Genocides in Africa being condoned and commited by various Christian churches and priests
14. Bushes "faith inspired" war on terror has caused over millions of lives ranging from American and NATO soldiers to countless of Afghan and Iraqi civilians.
15. Mass murder, enslavement, and forced relocation of Austrailian natives
16. Throughout the history of the Russian empire, the various Czars with the backing of the Russian Orthodox Church persecuted Jews and ethnic minorities.
First of all all those things in the bible that you mentioned are in the Old Testament therefor they are it irrelevant to Christianity. Now on to your atrocity list.
Crusades-were launched as a response to the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem. it was a defensive champagne to defend lands. Islam started it.
Spanish Inquisition-this was less of a religious cleansing and more of a government crack down on political enmities with religion used as a excuse.
Witch hunts-fair enough
Mass murder, enslavement, and relocation of native Americans- try again that was caused by expansionism/manifest destiny not religion.
Enslavement of Africans- nope African tribes had a very common practice of taking slaves from tribes they defeated in battle. When the Europeans arrived the tribes traded their slaves for guns.
Holocaust Hitler identified as a Catholic- more like he used Catholicism as a tool to legitimize his views and gain the the support of the German people.
Bombing Abortion clinics- okay fair enough it doesn't happen often but when it does the bomber is often Christian at least in this country.
Genocide of Bosnian Muslims during the Yugoslavic wars of the 90s- again ethnic cleansing Bosnians just happened to be primarily Muslim Slavs and Bosnians never got along.
Ngo Diem's persecution of Buddhists in south Vietnam- hey there was one casualty of that and he set himself on fire so stfu.
Destruction of pagans during the Christian rule of Rome- your right we were totally out of line there. I mean what did the pagans ever do to us aside form out law our religion, spread rumors that we were cannibals, enslave us, and feed us to lions as a form of public entertainment.
The CatholicChurch "pedophile" network- really this isn't as big a problem as every one makes it out to be. It was only a few isolated cases that turned out to be true. The rest were parents trying to cash in on the hysteria.
Genocides in Africa- dude ITS FUCKING AFRICA. NO SHIT.
Bush's faith inspired war on terror- hey lets not forget which faith started that war. Here's a hint it's to the one that inspired those men to fly airplanes int buildings and it starts with an I.
Mass murder, enslavement, and forced relocation of Australian natives- see my comment about the relocation of American natives.
Throughout the history of the Russian empire the various Czars with the backing of the Russian Orthodox Church persecuted Jews and ethnic minority's- well no shit Sherlock they didn't recognize the legitimacy of the Czar and by extension the Russian Orthodox Church marketing them political enemies. Rule one of being in power, stay in power.
Jesus strongly approved of the Old Testament. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
Btw, the new testament has alot of terrible things too, like the introduction of Hell (which is not mentioned anywhere in the Old Testament)
1. Crusades: Were launched to Genocide Muslims in the name of Christianity, Muslims were already living there
2. Spanish Inquisition: even if it was just a political tool (which it wasn't) it still managed to get the churches support, and it clearly doesn't violate any rules of the bible.
3. Early cases of the conquests of the American continents were done by Spanish conquistadors in the name of the Catholic church
4. You are correct, slavery was practiced among Africans, but guess what tool Europeans used to justify slavery through out history? Thats right, the bible!
5. Holocaust: Once again, as I said regarding the spanish inquisition, even if Hitler and the Nazis were simply using religion as a political tool (which they weren't), they still managed to gather a large amount of support from the (predominately Christian) populatin of Germany and the churches. Btw, much of the anti-semitism that existed in Germany (and through out Europe) was fuled by the Church for their portrayal of Jews as Christ killers.
7. Rwandan genocide may have been a political move, but many churches and preists took part in it.
8. Like I put above regarding the Holocaust, much of the xenophobia in Serbia towards Muslims was fuled by the Serbian Orthodox Church. And the government of Serbia (as with Hitler) managed to gather support from the population through the support of the church.
9. Not true, the ARVN gassed many Buddhist temples, and budhists priests were executed.
10. Exagerated?! I beg to differ, start getting your sources from some non-Catholic sites. Its actually quite disgusting how large and how long lasting that whole situation was.
11. War on Terror: True the invadion of Afghanistan was triggered by 9/11, but what about Iraq? No WMDs....sorry
Fulfill means that certain things like ceremonial law no longer apply because prophecy has been fulfilled and other things like homosexual acts, being of a different religion, being of no religion etc are still bad but not warranting of death because Jesus's sacrifice brought God's mercy a pone the earth. Also I don't talking about hell as being in and of its self bad.
1. The crusades were a response to Muslim aggression. They took Jerusalem and massacred Christians.
2. The Jews didn't recognize the legitimacy of the Spanish royalty. The church was on board because the Spanish Royal family were allies of the pope. Politics not religion.
3. But the Spanish focused more on building missions to convert the natives. If your referring to the out right conquest of the Aztecs that was for gold.
4. It was a miss interpretation. The bible only talks about indentured servitude and the laws it lays out are very humane even by modern standards.
5. The Nazis weren't Christian. Hitler posed as a Catholic but in reality he was obsessed with pagan mythology and occult practices. The German people followed him because they were I enamored with him. He had a cult of personality like Kim il sung.
6. Everyone in Rwanda was involved in the Tutsi V.S Hutu conflict. It was ethnic rivalry the fact that Rwandan priests took part in it is pure coincidence they weren't doing it because of Christianity it was because of ethnic strife.
7. Wow your saying people falsely used religion to justify atrocity wow that must make the actual religion horrible. Give me a brake Christianity isn't Islam our religion wasn't founded on violence.
8. Demi was mentally unstable. The church isn't responsible for the actions of a psychotic.
10. The bombing of abortion clinics is rare in fact every priest I've ever meet condemns it. They say we should let God punish the wicked.
11. We thought the Iraqis had WMDs after all Sadam had used anthrax on curds in the past. We had intelligence saying he had them and recent history seemed to back up those claims it would have been stupid not to act on it.
How is that? If you look into your Bible clearly, you will notice that Jesus was addressing the relevance of the Old Testament. Btw, if the Old Testament is irrelivent, why is it even part of the Bible? Did God suddenly change his mind?
" Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)
The idea of torturing anybody for eternety in a lake of fire makes me question how "Loving" the Christian God truly is.
1. Makes sense: "a couple of Muslims kill some christians in Jeruselum, we go in, wipe them all out, except for the women and children of course, we need sex slaves." What if we did that in todays military standard: "since Several germans are killing jews, so lets go kill all of them except for the women and choldren of course, we need sex slaves."
2. Still doesn't violate any rules of the bible, it follows the rules on killing followers of other religions.
3. Nope, look up on your history, claiming land for the Catholic church was a #1 priority on their part.
4. Wheres the "mr interpretation?" Lol, anyway the bible doesnt simply talk about simple servitude:
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)
When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
But of course this is only the "old testament" speaking, lets take a look at the "cuddly" New Testament:
"Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ."(Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
"Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them". (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)
5. Like I said, even if Hilter and the Nazis weren't Christian, they still managed to gather a whole lot of Christian support.
6. Still, chirches there who took part in it used the Bible as their motivation. No verse is broken by the actions they took
7. First off, I agree Islam is at its a core a violent ideology, but Christianity is no different. Islam wasn't founded on violence, if you read the Quran there are many verses that actually condemn certain acts of violence, but just like in the bible, it doesnt prohibit violence abgainst non followers of their religion.
8. They still followed him.
9. So, almost every bombing of abortion clinics is done by christians. But to be perfectly honest, the Bible isn't exactly anti abortion, look at these passages:
“Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer. Give them, 0 Lord: what wilt thou give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. . .Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.”
(Hosea 9:11-16)
“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.” In other words: women that might be pregnant, which clearly is abortion for the fetus. (Numbers 31:17)
Psalms 137:9 Here god commands that infants should be “dashed upon the rocks”.
10. First off, guess who gave Saddahm those chemical weapons in the first place? The great Christian Ronald Reagan during the Iran-Iraq war (Reagan also funded, armed, and trained Islamic radicals, among them was Osama Bin Laden, back in the 80's during the Soviet-Afghanistan war, many of these same radicals he backed would later be resposible for many of the modern day acts of radical islamic terrorism such as 9/11)
Second off, it was quite clear Iraq had no WMDs, the Bush Administration had Colin Powell lie and fake evidence for this claim, the UN inspected and found no evidence, but We went in anyway, and guess what? The UN was right.
The prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus's return so the law of the Old Testament expired. It's in the bible as a history to let the reader know why things were the way they were. The crusades were a war of retribution against Muslim aggression i don't know what this talk about sex slaves is about.
Misinterpretation the bible even refers to it as indentured servitude.
The slavery bit about slaves being from foreign lands is no longer payed attention to in Christianity. Old Testament the rules changed.
For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)
If you pay attention to the part of the verse "...till heaven and earth pass away.." You will see that it is referring to the "End Times" as described in Revelations. This is how it was interpreted for centuries since christianity existed. Doesn't it seem odd that you would know more than the ancient Christian philosiphers like Martin Luther, who devoted their whole life to the study of the texts and lived at a time where laws in their society were based around the bible?
Not to say all religous people are racist, but studies have shown that the more religous you are, the more likely racist you are. I have not met one atheist who is a racist, but I know plenty of die hard Christians who are (like my friends grandmother). The Southern United states was full of deeply religous christians, many of whom read scripture to justify slavery. In South africa, many of the whites were strongly religous and the Dutch Reformed church played a huge role in forming and maintaining the Apartheid system.
Well the Catholic Church discourages such base thinking. There are many black bishops and cardinals. I can't speak for southern baptists (whom I don't like) but for my own church slavery is quite condemned.
Many churches nowadays teach that the earth revolves around the sun, but for the longest time they insisted that it was the sun that revolves around the earth. The Catholic Church even ordered the execution of those (most famously Galileo) who suggested different. As I said before, things in the bible (like slavery, murder, rape, etc.) that christians used to take literally are now considered "symbolic" due to the evolving social pressure and new scientific discoveries that contadict scripture.
The ten commandments were originally meant to be looked at from a tribal mentality point of view, basically meaning that the rules of the Ten commandments only applied to those who belong to the paticular religous/ethnic community, anyone else from other religions nad/or ethnicities are not subject to these rules and are even instructed to be killed. This is why God was not angry at Moses for killing an Egyptian.
It's their country. Anyone who goes there knows or can find out what the rules are. If someone comes to our country, we expect them to follow our rules. If we go to their country, then we need to follow their rules - whether you agree with them or not. I am never going to go to Iran and think I can walk around in a miniskirt and I'm not egotistical enough to think that their rules wouldn't apply to me. Get over it!
These are people who live there. They aren't visiting they were born there and just happen to be Christian. It's as much their home and country as it is the Muslim's those basterds have no right to do this to them. When Muslims come to our country we let them practice their religion. But I guess that just goes to show how much more civilized we are than these barbarians.
I'm not saying that all Palestinians are innocent but the occupying Israelis are just as guilty of turning that area into a war zone, a Jewish friend of mine was out there recently and said the behaviour of the Israelis towards the Palestinians made him ashamed to be Jewish.
