If Einstein was a genius and believed in God, then what does this make atheist?

The argument on whether God exists or not is not one based on intellect or physical science. It's based on philosophy and reasoning. Einstein did not believe in God. He just didn't believe that we were smart enough to know whether there was a God or not. If Ledhead is still around, he'll say that Einstein is an atheist and that Agnostics are atheists and such, and on a scale of "you're either atheist or theist" than he would be right. But philosophically, Einstein was not an atheist, but do not try and claim that he believed in God. To believe in God is to suggest that there is a God. Einstein claimed that there's no way of knowing. Either way, it does not matter if you're an atheist or a theist, intellect depends on how much of the physical world you understand. Even a theist must be willing to put the idea of God to the side when trying to figure out how the physical world works. 322 days ago | Tagged As: Einstein is Agnostic
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." - Einstein 322 days ago | Tagged As: Einstein is Agnostic
I MAY have missed the point of this debate buuutt..... Intelligence is not the sole factor for belief/lack of belief in God. I know stupid atheists I know smart theists (for those who think smart people are atheist LOL!) and vice versa. I think it's more to do with how you were raised, your experiences in life and also education. Certain things in life have led me to doubt my religion and God's existance, however when thinking about it deep deep down, I will always know God exists and the religion I follow is right. Other experiences have led me to strengthen my beliefs. Sometimes people have an epiphamy and gain/lose their beliefs. So to say being smart/dumb means you're religious/atheist is kind of stupid. 322 days ago | Tagged As: intelligence experience background
Just a fun fact, None of Einsteins theories contradict the beliefs of the Mormon church. And I'm Mormon. I liked the attack on Atheists though, you don't get that much here. They over rule the place. (; Though he was more of an Agnostic, he wasn't an Atheist. 322 days ago | Tagged As: Mormon ftw
A compound hypothetical proposition! I can't speak for atheists, but what I can assert is that most atheists more likely dis-believe in a god that is more man than one that is greater than man. Religion tends to make God identical to mankind, while at the same time overlooking the fact that God is not a man. Now, should an atheist be condemned for searching for a God that is greater than himself? While, contrary-wise religion teaches man that he can be as good as GOD? Have you ever noticed that there are times when you come across a man whom you should not of fucked with? I think there are many christians, so-called, who are well accustomed to this maxim. BTW, my opinion of Einstein is not such that it would call him a genius. Any takers? 322 days ago | Tagged As: less spiritual baggage
Well, you're absolutely right. But it is nice to see somebody take a swing at atheists for once. (; Another example could be: Einstein wasn't a fan of capitalism, does that make capitalism bad? Of course not. Just because the guy was smart doesn't make his opinion correct about everything. 320 days ago | Tagged As: Mormon ftw
I sure do have fun correcting you on like every comment you make thewayits. You just keep being wrong. Einstein was what could be best be described as a deist, much like most of the U.S. forefathers, and much like the majority of great minds through out history before the details of the big bang were hammered out link So what does that make the person who starts a debate misrepresenting the opinions of what was perhaps the greatest mind of our history? 322 days ago | Tagged As: Einstein is Agnostic
A university professor at a well known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exist?" A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did." The professor replied, "If God created everything, then God created evil and since evil exists; according to the principal that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil." The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boosted to the students that he had proven once more that Christian faith was just a myth. Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?" "Of coarse.", replied the professor. The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?" The professor responded, "What kind of a question is this? Of course it exist. Have you never been cold?" The other students snickered at the young man's question. The young man replied, "In fact cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes all matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat." The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?" The professor responded, "Of coarse it does." The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You can not measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain place is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when no light is present." Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?" Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of coarse, as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily examples of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil." The student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or darkness that comes when there is no light." The professor sat down...The young man's name was Albert Einstein. Note: I have read several biographies about Einstein and know what his words are. The source of this passage is not known to me, it is just one of many that I have collected over the years. I collect all types of these things for this purpose. 321 days ago | Tagged As: Too easy
