Face it... Modern Republicans are more liberal than modern Democrats. The modern Democrats are frauds disguised as liberals.

Hello bront:

Call it what you want, but MY side believes in FREEDOM for everybody, and your side DOESN'T...

But, I UNDERSTAND your desire to BE a liberal.

You often post stuff without doing all your homework. If you click on "liberalism" in the link provided in your own definition it further clarifies that it is:

"a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy (see autonomy 2) of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties; specifically : such a philosophy that considers government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (such as those involving race, gender, or class)."

Heck, you and the Republican conservatives slam "progressive" all the time and that's at the very core of the definition. Are you now claiming the Republicans are progressive? I bet not.

Belief in progress is completely different to being a progressive. Progressivism is a political movement. The creators of "The Young Turks" YouTube news channel, for example, identify as progressives.

Classical liberalism doesn't "consider government as a crucial instrument for amelioration of social inequities (such as those involving race, gender, or class)." (Source 1).

And Winston, I'm willing to concede there are various definitions out there and some like the Wikepedia one would make an important distinction. But that wasn't the one the debate author whipped out. He turned to Websters for a slam dunk and his own source had a link to a Websters definition which countered his claim. And that's really my point. I don't really care whether Republicans or Democrats have the better claim to representing liberal. I'm sick of all the conservative / liberal opposite extremes discussions anyway. What I care about is propagandists toss out bold claims and then slap some sort of blog post or whatever up there and it doesn't really claim what they say it does, yet they act like the rest of us are idiots for not swallowing it.
