This site gives us the ban feature, but if used the site says they can copy your argument!

Dear FromWithin, Let me be very clear about my position: 1. I do not favor you or Cuaroc more or less. You are both members of the site and as some pointed out valuable to me with respect to overall site traffic. Site traffic does not pay for the site. It helps pay for the site. The site loses money, money out of my pocket to the magnitude of approximately $700/month. 2. I do not promote censorship nor plagiarism. Banning people could be considered censorship, and copying debates could be considered plagiarism. 3. I do not stop you from banning people from your own debates because you have been granted that right. 4. I do not stop Cuaroc from "copying" your debates because he should be able to debate the same topic. You can call it plagiarism, but there is a fine line as he appropriately cites you as the originator. While that may not free him fully from the "fair use" concept, what can people do to debate the topic if you are banning them? They are left with either a). Not debating the topic or b). Copying your debate in some way to debate the presented topic. So, I do not know how to solve this other than leave it the status quo. I welcome civil thoughts on the topic from all. BTW, for the record, I would like it noted that I posted on FromWithin's debate. 0

Thank you for stating your position and now I would like to state mine. Let me just start out with the fact that I grew up in a time when people were taught right from wrong and there was a price to be paid for irresponsible behavior. Regardless the offense, people were quickly reminded that if they do certain things, there would be consequences and those consequences heped in preventing future episodes of similar behavior. Fast forwarding to today as if in the Twilight Zone, society has lost that simple wisdom and ability to hold people accountable for their actions. We see it in our growing welfare roles, in our schools, in the work force, etc. Many people have lost all respect for rules, etc. and no longer fear the consequences of irresponsible behavior, because many times there are no consequences. You say and I quote..."I do not stop Cuaroc from "copying" your debates because he should be able to debate the same topic" WHY? Why should someone who for good reason has been banned from a person's argument, be able to debate OUR topic that WE created? Where is our recourse if even the ban feature is useless? Let him create his own argument(not copy word for word) on the same topic if he so badly needs to debate it. No one is censoring a person's ability to debate a topic. What we are trying to do is stop childish, or vulgar, or disrupting behavior that can destroy a debate. We as a nation used to posses the simple common sense understanding that leaving one bad apple in the barrel, ruined the entire barrel. If you care about this site and I think you do, please understand the importance of the ban feature and allow it the teeth it was meant for. Otherwise I believe people will get frustrated with childish behavior and leave the site. I completely understand how you have no time to play baby sitter for thousands of arguments, so I say allow us the ability to control our own arguments as we see fit. Give us the respect of our decisions to ban certain people. Very few people would ban just for the fun of it. We are all here to debate our opinions, not ban people. A simple statement from you telling people to no longer copy arguments is all that is needed and just maybe there will soon be $700 per month coming in to your pockets:) 2

Then you should be banned because you're ruining the barrel, and I think nearly everyone on this site would agree. This is a DEBATE site. You are not here to debate, you are here to preach. When people disagree with you, you either hurl insults at them or ban them. That's not debating. No one is censoring a person's ability to debate a topic. I lol'd again. This is exactly what you are trying to do. You are just mad because someone made a way around your schtick. Someone is allowing your bad premises to be challenged by removing your ability to have the final word. That is what it is really about, controlling your message requires control over the voices you disagree with. You're having a hard time here because you are not wanting to debate, you are wanting a circle jerk where everyone looks at the other guy and says "well said". If your debates were a country they would be North Korea. 1
